Best Moments for Braves at the All-Star Game

With the MLB All-Star game coming up soon, let's take a look at some memorable moments and performances by Braves players. The Braves have had their share of All-Stars, particularly in the 1990s when they were the dominant team in the NL.

Chipper homers at home

At the top of the list of Atlanta Braves All-Star game performances is Chipper Jones's amazing performance in 2000 . It's the only year the game has been held at Turner Field and Chipper sure made the most of it. Bobby Cox was the manager. Chipper started at third base, went 3-for-3 with a homerun. After the game he described the experience: "It was awesome. I mean, it's every little boy's dream." Chipper and the National League squad lost 6-3 but it was definitely a memorable game for Braves fans.

Crime Dog's pinch hit

I remember the 1994 All-Star Game well. Fred McGriff, one of the most likeable player in baseball, won the MVP after hitting a game-trying 2 run homer in the bottom of the 9^th against one of the top closers that season Lee Smith. The game was filled with drama as the NL eventually won 5-4 in 10 innings. McGriff's at bat was appropriately long as well, fouling off a few two-strike pitches before hitting the long ball.

More homers for the hometown star

In 1972, Hank Aaron hit what he called the most dramatic home run of his career in the All-Star Game at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. The home run gave the NL a 2-1 lead in the 6^th inning. The game wound up going 10 innings with the NL winning 4-3 . The legend had only 2 homeruns in 67 career All-Star Game at bats between 1955 and 1975.

McCann's game-winning hit

Many people think Brian McCann is the new face of the Braves. The All-Star Game in 2010 in Anaheim, CA was another big moment in McCann's young career. He hit a 3-run double in the 7^th inning for the NL's only runs. The NL beat the AL 3-1 . MeCann has appeared in 5 All-Star Games but never as a starter. He is currently the leading vote-getter among NL catchers so he looks to be the starter in 2011.
