Kids will love making the Heart Brooch for mom's jewelry box. They can practice their math as they measure ingredients. The Handprint Magnets let kids paint, and use their imagination as they write their special message.
Teens will enjoy making the Tissue Box Photo frame. What better gift to give mom than a personal picture of yourself in a gaily decorated box?
Adults like to get in on the fun too. The Homemade Spa features all the ingredients to give mom a special day of pampering.
Heart Brooch
Ingredients needed:
1 cup flour
1 cup warm water
ΒΌ cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon oil
Your favorite flavor food coloring
Mix all ingredients together. Stir constantly over medium heat until smooth. Remove from pan and form into a ball. Knead dough ball until smooth. After thoroughly cooling, place in a plastic bag. Shape dough into a heart to make a brooch. Before dough hardens, stick a straight pin into back of heart. After dough has hardened, paint with your favorite colors.
Handprint Magnets
Supplies needed:
Poster board
Scissors
Magnet with a sticky back
Poster paint and small paint brush
Black Marker
Paint one hand with poster paint and make a handprint on the poster board. Repeat with other hand. Cut out each handprint. Write the possessive form of your name on one hand, and on the other hand write something like "work" or "masterpiece. Put a piece of sticky magnet on each hand. Put handprint magnets on refrigerator for a Mother's Day surprise.
Tissue Box Photo Frame
Supplies Needed:
Small Kleenex box
Colored Glitter
4 mm round beads
Ming Wire
Glue gun
Scissors
Tape
A picture of yourself
Decorative paper
Cut the top off the tissue box and remove the cellophane. Trim photo if necessary, then tape picture underneath the top so it shows through the opening. Cut a piece of decorative paper slightly larger and glue "frame" in the middle of it. Sprinkle on colored glitter. String the beads on ming wire and bend the edges to keep beads from falling off. Apply hot glue around the frame.
