Arclight Cinemas Hollywood
The Arclight Cinema, located in the entertainment capital, Hollywood, is one of the biggest movie theaters I've ever been to. Not only is it big, but the sound quality is excellent. In addition, their seats are very comfortable and their food is great! The only thing is that they are a bit pricey, but it's worth every penny!
Grauman's Chinese Theater
The Chinese Theater is also located in the heart of Hollywood. Whenever I go there I feel like I'm traveling back in time to old Hollywood. The theater was opened in the '20's and the design is very classic. It's not the same if you just peek inside, buy a ticket and have a great experience!
Egyptian Theater
This theater was also built by Charles Grauman. Like the Chinese Theater, the Egyptian theater surrounds you in theatrical opulence. Along with showing the movie, the Egyptian Theater sometimes invites some of the movies' filmmakers to be present for question and answer sessions after the showing. The Egyptian Theater has a lot of special showings, so I suggest you visit the website to see what they have planned.
El Capitan
This is a great theater for a family outing! Along with the movie, they usually have some type of event associated with it, like meeting the characters from the movie afterwards. Occasionally, El Capitan will host a special day for a screening of a Disney movie in 3D, which kids highly enjoy. You can even host birthday parties there, which is a lot of fun.
Laemmle's Playhouse 7
Unlike the aforementioned theaters, Laemmle's Playhouse is located in Pasadena. This theater has a great indie, foreign, and art movie selection, and appeals mostly to the older crowd, so you won't have to worry about loud teenagers. They are reasonably priced, and they are located near some nice restaurants. The only con is parking, they don't have a parking garage so you have to walk around the block and try to find a place to park.
