1) The Shawshank Redemption-drama (1994) starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman-Rated R. One of the best drama movies ever to not win an Oscar. It was nominated for seven, but didn't win a single one. This is a prison drama about the character of a man and life's fate. Highly recommended. By far, one of the best movies to watch.
2)John Q.- drama (2002) starring Denzel Washington-Rated PG-13. In this drama, a father down on his luck and caught in the messy web of the politics and greed of insurance companies, doctors, hospitals, and businesses, takes a hospital hostage until the hospital agrees to save his sons life by giving him the operation he desperately needs.
3) The Day After Tomorrow-drama (2004) starring Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal-Rated PG-13. This is a story of an end of the world scenario that is brought on by climate change and global warming and centers around a father and son. The special effects are fantastic and make this drama one of the best movies to watch.
4) Good Will Hunting-drama (1997) starring Matt Damon, Robin Williams, Ben Affleck, and Minnie Driver-Rated R (a lot of language). Winner of two Academy Awards, this drama is about a genius (Will Hunting) with a gift for math who has a broken past and needs help from a psychologist (Robin Williams) to help him cope with his past and find direction for his future.
5) Seabiscuit-drama (2003) starring Tobey Maguire, Jeff Bridges, and Chris Cooper-Rated PG-13. Winner of two Golden Globe awards and two Screen Actors Guild Awards. This drama is based on a true story set during the Great Depression. An unexpected horse helps lift the spirits of not only his jockey, trainer, and owners, but also the country. A true historical drama and one of the best movies to watch.
6) A Few Good Men-drama (1992) starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon and Kiefer Sutherland-Rated R. Winner of the People's Choice Awards, the National Board of Review, and MTV Movie Awards. One of the best movies about honor, truth, and a navy lawyer defending two marines being charged with murder. This drama is known for Jack Nicholson's famous line "You can't handle the truth!"
7) Erin Brockovich-drama (2000) starring Julia Roberts-Rated R. Winner of an Oscar, a BAFTA Film Award, a BMI Film Music Award, a Blockbuster Entertainment Award, a Bogey Award, a Critics Choice Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Golden Globe Award to name a few. In this drama, a single mother, unable to find work or win her personal lawsuit against a doctor, convinces her lawyer to hire her. Erin, the single mom, eventually winds up taking on a multi-billion dollar corporation in a class action lawsuit.
8) The Firm-drama (1993) starring Tom Cruise, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Gene Hackman-Rated R. Winner of the People's Choice Award. In this drama a young Harvard graduate (Cruise) takes an offer and joins a law firm that later reveals its true self to the young lawyer. He quickly becomes entangled in a mess and has to figure a way out.
9) Dances with Wolves-drama (1990), starring Kevin Costner-Rated R. Winner of seven Oscars, three Golden Globe Awards, and one Grammy Award, to name a few. One of Kevin Costner's best films, this drama starts out focusing on the Civil War era but soon entails the story of the Lakota Indians and Costner's developing relationship and understanding of these people. A true drama and a must on the best movies list.
10) Air Force One-drama (1997), starring Harrison Ford-Rated R. Winner of ASCAP Award, Bambi Award, and a Blockbuster Entertainment Award, to name a few. This is an edge of your seat kind of movie where Harrison Ford plays the role of the President of the United States. Hijackers seize Air Force One with the President and his family on board. The movie is filled with drama and suspense. One of the best movies for suspense.
