Mount Rainier National Park, Washington
The season may be short here, however don't let that stop you from trying some of the greatest off-road running you've ever experienced in the northwest. Choose from the 5.5 mile Skyline Loop, Wonderland Trail that extends for 93 miles as well as circularly surrounding an active 14,410 foot volcano. There's also 21 great camping sites along the trail's route.
Acadia National Park, Maine
A 125 mile blanket of trails winds through the forest of this park filled with evergreens, combined with the other draw to this location, which is the coast. As a runner you'll enjoy car free running trails that resemble historical roads that once were adorned with horse drawn carriages. For those runners looking for more of a challenge, give the steeper granite ledges of Cadillac Mountain's South Ridge Trail, totaling 7.4 miles round trip a try.
Rocky Mountain National Park
If your goal is to run in higher elevations, Rocky Mountain National Park has the trail for you. With 355 miles of trails that start at 7,500 to more than 12,000 feet, you'll be breathing the thin air of the high altitude, but you'll also have the striking views of the high panoramic peaks. Runners will also enjoy wildflower meadows and pine forests along the way.
Yosemite National Park, California
Landmarks of the old west line this trail that can be depended on as virtually storm free during the summer. As you run can enjoy those draws, along with 3 challenging ascents brought to you by Glacier Point (4.8 miles one way), Yosemite Falls (3.6 miles), or the Half Dome (7 miles). It's a win win when making choices at this location because, the trails here will give runners plenty of what they're looking for.
