Buy locally grown plants whenever possible, because they are acclimated to your region. Now, that said, these local nurseries are some of the best in Memphis.

Dabney has some excellent selection of trees and plants in this area. Located out in eastern Shelby County, this 150-acre nursery has been supplying the area's horticulturalists with all they need for over 25 years. They guarantee that all their trees will bud and leaf out or money back. It's a very reliable place with an excellent staff. They acclimate their stock to local conditions so their customers will not have to worry so much about root shock when they go to plant the trees. They also have an extensive hosta collection with many varieties nor ordinarily seen at some of the smaller nurseries. The rose selections are also impressive. Dabney's prices are quite reasonable and their service excellent.
Bayless Greenhouses is one of those well-known secrets among Memphis gardeners-the ones who are purists and bargain hunters at the same time. Located in the north Memphis area of Shelby Forrest, it's just enough out of the way to attract only people who've heard of it and their friends who've become devotees. The best thing about this place is actually three things. It's incredibly low-priced, the people who staff it are very courteous and know their stock, and its very well stocked with the samehigh-quality plants and trees that all the other nurseries in Memphis have. But the combination on low pricing, friendly and knowledgeable service make this a great local garden center for anyone's continued patronage.

TREES BY TOULIATOS

I can't even begin to describe this place. It's one of the few nurseries in Memphis that sells varieties of bamboo. Patrons can get plants here that they can't find anywhere else. Horticulturists are all over the place. Plato Touliatos is a genius about plant diseases and he offer his comments when and if you can come across him. Just going here to look at their unusual magnolias, hostas, lilies and ferns is an even all by itself. They have water garden plants that are very extensive. This is not a bargain nursery, though. But if your pocketbook isn't deep, come here to browse their plantings and get some ideas for what might suit your garden. He has several acres of plants and greenhouses to wander through.
Dan West Garden Center Inc
Memphis,TN 38117Dan West us is just a Memphis favorite. They have bulbs, perennials, annuals, shrubs, seeds, and gardening tools and accessories. It's really a Memphis tradition. Take a diseased leaf her and they can tell you what is happening. Ask about how to kill weeds or fertilize and they tell you right there. They don't do sales pitches. Most of the staff has been there a long time, so it's a peasure to go in and gel like the clerks know what they're talking about. They also take care of their plant stock, watering and shielding them from the sun appropriately. Come in the late spring for sales and there are some good bargains. These folks are really knowledgeable about plants, weeds, plant diseases and care of plants. It's a great place to shop for lawn and garden care and for some lovely plants.
