Best Off-Leash Dog Friendly Park in Sydney

Bayview Park is a well hidden secret. Located on Sydney's Northern beaches it is a haven for both dogs and their owners. There is a large grassy open area for dog walking and exercising, and a beach for dog swimming. The beach is tidal, so there are no waves. The scenery is stunning.

Bayview dog friendly park has:

• Clean toilets

• Shady Picnic area

• Large off-leash areas including the beach

• Benches - to sit and admire the view while your dog gets his exercise

• Doggie bags and bins at regular intervals (so you can pick up those 'deposits' and keep the park clean)

• Ample free street parking

• Boat ramps, should you want to take your pooch yachting

On the weekends and public holidays the dog park gets quite busy. The one-hour free parking area in the parking lot is always full. So you will need to park on the street. The best place is next to the tennis courts, a little further down the road. You will need to have your dog on a leash until you get to the park or the beach.

I visit the dog park often and even with over a hundred dogs of all shapes and sizes there, I've never seen an altercation. Perhaps it's because they can't 'mark' their territory on a tidal beach that they always seem to be on their best behavior.

You can see the dogs absolutely love this dog park. The old arthritic dogs get a lot of relief from swimming and seem to get a new lease on life. The large hairy dogs, like malamutes and huskies are just so relived to be in the cool water especially during the hot Sydney summers. Dogs with skin allergies and rashes get relief from the sea water.

Even if you don't live in Sydney's North, this dog park is well worth the day trip. Remember to bring a leash and a towel to dry your dog after swimming. There is a cold water tap in the dog park if your dog gets thirsty.Although Bayview is listed as a pet friendly park, it is a dog park. Bringing cats and other pets would not be wise.
