The skin becomes oily because of a substance known as sebum. The skin naturally produces sebum but when it starts to over produce sebum on a whim, the skin becomes oily. The overproduction of sebum will eventually clog the pores leading to the accumulation of dead cells beneath the skin causing pimples, bumps and acne.
So to prevent acne and embarrassing skin, you must treat oily skin with proper and specific care. But basically, to treat oily skin you must remove excessive sebum from the skin. You can remove excessive oil from oily skin with a mild oil-free moisturizer. Pay special attention when buying moisturizers or anything for oily skin care; you should ensure that it is especially made for people with oily skin. If you are going to buy a universal facial skin care product, it is best that you try it on a small part of your body first to see how it works and proceed or discontinue use with the results you get. But most universal skin care products do not work well on oily skin so be careful with what you buy.
Another way to treat oily skin is to apply a clay mask on your face two times per week. A clay mask is effective at soaking up excess oil from the skin and it keeps your skin oil and acne free.
Alcohol-based facial products are also a good way to treat and care for oily skin. You should use an alcohol-based toner three times per week on oily skin to rid it of excess oil.
Investing in a good oil-free cleanser is also another good way to prevent oily skin from breaking out into pimples. For best oily skin care use a cleanser that contains salicylic acid. Salicylic acid cuts down sebum production in the skin and helps to even out oily skin. You should use a cleanser twice per day to prevent and treat oily skin.
Also to treat oily skin you can buy sulfur-based creams or get prescriptions for retinoid and vitamin A creams to fight oily skin problems and prevent acne.
You don't have to let having oily skin get you down. Oily skin can be treated and look fresh and beautiful once you start treating it properly.
