I believe there are two types of personality traits when it comes to painting spaces. The first personality type is the one who likes solids. This type of person I call a "solids person". The "solids person" likes one color to be painted on all their walls. They like to play it safe and bring in the other tones with accessories. They like to keep it clean and simple. The second personality type is the one who likes more than one shade of color on the walls. I call this personality type the "dramatic person". They like faux finishes such as glazing, sponging, ragging, or other techniques. They like texture and they want their walls to be dramatic. They would like their walls to be part of the focal point in the room.
I have put together some great colors for a Tuscany style kitchen. These colors are great for the solids personality or the dramatic personality. For those of you with a dramatic personality I would recommend a glaze effect for a Tuscan style kitchen. To glaze your walls you need to pick two colors from my list. One color needs to be the base color. You need to paint all the walls the first color, preferably the lighter color choice, and let it dry completely. The second color needs to be mixed in a bucket with one part of the paint to three parts of the glaze. Then, roll or brush on the glaze and wipe off some of the mixture with a clean rag. This will give a wonderful two toned effect. You can pick a third color for more tones in your wall. Just make sure and use the darkest color last. Here are some great color combinations for those of you who want to dramatize your walls or those of you who just want a solid. These colors are all from Sherwin Williams. I recommend a satin or eggshell finish for a Tuscan kitchen.
