Best Parents from Movies

Do you know those movies about family life, films whose characters seem detached from the stories?

Do you remember in adolescence how many times you wished to have so understanding parents?

Well we made a list of parents from TV series that we would want to adopt...or to be adopted by them, or to be just like them when we'll have our own children.

1. Joice Summers, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

As raising a teenage girl wasn't enough, Joice Summers must cope with a daughter whose destiny is to kill vampires and save the world. Instead of discouraging her, Joice embraces Buffy's fate. More than that, she is an exceptional surrogate mother for her daughter's eccentric friends.

2. Ma and Pa, "Little House on the Prairie"

Which other parents would be able to transform successfully the bladder of a pig in a toy? Pioneers of the parents from TV series, Ma and Pa do simple things like cutting the wood, making butter, - succeeding to win a place in the heart of many teenagers.

3. Roseanne Conner, "Roseanne"

Just the fact that an ordinary woman, feminist, and with a pretty cynical sense of humor (and who doesn't fit in the 90-60-90 pattern) was on TV for 9 seasons is quite radical. But more radical is that Roseanne, an antithesis of the stereotypical mother from TV series, was portrayed as an extraordinary mother, deals with the teenage issues of her children easily.

4. Jim and Cindy Walsh, "Beverly Hills, 90210"

Let's suppose that your son takes a fictional drug called U4EA at a rave underground party and can't drive up home. And that he lets there his vintage Mustang for which he worked so hard for it by serving meals at Peach Pit. Moreover, next day he finds the car painted with colored spray and without tires. How long would you be mad at him? For the Walsh husbands, the anger persisted for one episode. Their twins, Brandon and Brenda, were getting constantly in trouble, but Jim and Cindy seemed to live for their children's drama. How is that?

5. Sandy and Kirsten Cohen, "The OC"

As a couple, they are a case of the opposites that attract one another: Sandy is an idealistic lawyer in New York, and Kirsten is in the management committee of a large real estate company, but they managed to make their love credible in a TV serial full of superficiality. In addition, they are experts in giving advice.

6. Clair and Cliff Huxtable, "The Cosby Show"

In the role of spouses Huxtable, Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashat managed to keep our eyes on the TV for 8 seasons, playing the role of some wise parents, always ready to give a good advice to their 5 children. Their ability to raise children in a big city has certainly inspired many fans to stay or to move in cities to raise their own children.

7. Annie and Eric Camden, "7th Heaven"

Have you ever seen such a perfect family? So perhaps it doesn't exist. But the 7 and later, the 9 Camden certainly made us to wish to be adopted by them. A tasteless TV serial, quite far from the truth ... but wouldn't it be great to be so in real life?

8. Lorelay Gilmore, "The Gilmore Girls"

She is one of my favorites and if you're not comfortable with that...I write the article anyway. And yes, I know, in this case it's not about parents, because Lorelay is just one, but she managed to be both a mother and a father for the brilliant Rory. This is why I was convinced when I was a teenager that I want to have a daughter and to raise her by myself. Who needs men when you're Lorelay Gilmore and your daughter is Rory Gilmore?

Like Janet just reminded me, Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote these books that the show is based on. Thanks for this great selection of parents. It reminds me of happy times.

My favorite was Little House on the Prairie. I loved that show as a kid! And Laura Ingalls Wilder's books were also great. Nobody writes books like that anymore...
