But what about some of the best players who have never won a Masters tournament. Every player who has made it to the Masters made it because they were the best in the sport, but not all of the best have taken home a Green Jacket and trophy. This is my pick for the top 5 PGA golfers who are the best in the sport, but have yet to win a Masters tournament.
Sergio Garcia -
Known as El Nino, Garcia has ranks number 8 in the World Rank with 16 wins Worldwide and has come close to taking the Masters tournament on several occasions. Somewhere along the way he has managed to foul up and hasn't been able to pull himself out of the slump afterward. Sergio Garcia is also known for his tantrums on the green when making shots into sand traps or the woods.
Garcia is still listed as the most likely major-less player in the PGA to win tournaments that are not the Masters.
Adam Scott -
Adam Scott is a lot like Sergio Garcia, but without the tantrums. He knows how to hit the ball, and play like Tiger Woods did before he started winning the Masters. Scott's problem is that he consistently mixes up his plays with his short game. When Adam Scott wants to use his potential, he does and wins tournaments in impressive ways. Scott is ranked number 5 in the World Rank with 12 wins under his belt. But with scores in the 70's, and no top 25 finishes at the Masters, the British Open and Oakmont, he needs to pull out that magic he is known for to pull of a Masters win.
Henrik Stenson -
Stenson has the personality of a star, and the potential to win major golf tournaments if he focused on the game and got his plays together. Stenson was considered The Next Big Thing after impressive wins in Dubai and Tucson, Arizona at the Accenture World Match Play Championship, but after his game fizzled out he has been stuck in a slump ever since. Ranked number 9 in the World Rank with 9 impressive wins Henrik Stenson has what it takes to what it takes to win a Masters, but he needs to start acting like he wants to win.
K. J. Choi -
K.J. Choi makes my list because for all the problems he has had with his game he is still impressive and driven enough to win a Masters tournament. He consistently steps up his game when he plays, but always falls short of an actual major win. Choi is ranked number 12in the World Rank with 10 Worldwide Wins, including Memorial and Tiger Woods' AT&T National, Choi could give Tiger Woods a run for his money in a Masters Tournament.
Luke Donald -
Englishman Luke Donald has been an impressive golfer since his days at Northwestern University, but recently he has started to step back from the major tournaments and quietly play the game under the radar. His game previously has been impressive, such as his second place finish in Hawaii at the Sony Open, where the only thing that kept him from taking 1st place and beating Paul Goydos was a faltering near the end. He also had the lead near the end of the Byron Nelson Championship, but let that championship slip away with some poor shots under pressure. After that he was never able to recapture a solid ranking.
With some work, and concentration on his game, Luke Donald has the potential to pull off a major win in his career and make an impressive finish in the Masters Tournament. With a World rank of 11 with 4 Worldwide Wins I predict Donald will get a major win eventually, just as fellow precision stylists Jim Furyk and Corey Pavin did.
