Best Places to Bowl Near West Virginia University

Three Bowling Centers in Morgantown, West Virginia

Christopher Blydenburgh
Morgantown West Virginia is the home to the largely famous West Virginia University. The nearly thirty thousand students that attend here on campus and the several thousand full time residents that live around here all have something in common, they love to go bowling! I mean they really must. I have just recently moved to this city and I have already found three good size bowling centers all within just a few minutes of the West Virginia University main campus.

The following is a list of the three best places to go bowling within a few minutes' drive of West Virginia University:

Mountain Lair Bowling Center

This bowling center is actually located right on the West Virginia University main campus. On the bottom floor of the Mountain Lair, you will find this little known secret of the students, a sixteen lane full service bowling center. This bowling center is located on the bottom floor of the Mountain Lair below the student cafeteria which has a Burger King, Quizznos, fine dining, and more. Inside the bowling center is a full size game room, fourteen pool tables, and a bar and grill that is open during the school year. The current prices for a game are $4.04 per game for open bowling and $2.02 per game during the up all night cosmic bowling on Thursday through Saturday nights.

Suburban Lanes

This bowling center is located on the 705 right behind West Virginia University and a few feet from the entrance to Mon General Hospital. This 24 lane bowling center has a moderate sized game room and a small snack bar located up a flight of stairs. There is a daily special here that has open bowling from Monday through Friday until six at night that is just $2.50 per game. The regular price for open bowling is $3.00 per game, and cosmic night bowling is $3.65 per game on Friday and Saturday nights. Leagues are run seasonally and run about $15 per week.

Sycamore Lane

This bowling center is located in Westover, about a fifteen minute drive from the West Virginia University campus. This sixteen lane bowling center has what I call a "split system" center. Due to the fact that the building was not originally built for the bowling center (the center is in the rented bottom floor of this building), the lanes are not all in one consecutive line. Instead, there are twelve lanes on one side and four more lanes behind them going the opposite way (rather unusual for the typical mindset of the bowling fan). Price per game here is set at $3.25 per game.

So if you are a WVU student or just a resident with a strong desire to go bowling tonight, there are plenty of places to bowl in the West Virginia University area every day! Go strikes!!!
