Best Places to Find Rescue Dogs in Atlanta - Atlanta's Rescue Organizations
All of the rescue organizations listed below are 501c(3) non-profit organizations. Each of them are inspected and licensed annually by the Georgia Department of Agriculture. Most have pictures of available rescue dogs on their websites. Some have onsite shelters where the dogs are kept while they await adoption and are open to the public during business hours. Some of these rescue organizations do not have shelters, but rely on volunteers to temporarily foster their rescue dogs. All of these rescue organizations require an adoption application, usually available online, which is carefully reviewed by staff. Although these rescue organizations do not sell rescue dogs, adoption fees are charged for each adoption. Adoption fees are usually between $100 to $250 and include vaccinations, worming, spay or neutering and sometimes medical care for injuries or diseases.

The Atlanta Humane Society is located at 981 Howell Mill Road in Atlanta. Their rescue shelter is open to the public for adoptions seven days a week, Monday through Friday from 11 am to 7 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. PAWS Atlanta, formerly known as the Dekalb Humane Society, is located at 5287 Covington Highway in Decatur, just outside of Atlanta. Their hours of operation are Monday from 12 noon to 4 pm, Tuesday through Friday from 12 noon to 6 pm and Saturday and Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm. Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption is open to the public on Tuesday through Friday from 11 am to 4 pm and on Saturday from 12 noon to 5 pm at their location on 720 14th Street in Atlanta. Best Places to Find Rescue Dogs in Atlanta - SmallDog Rescue and Humane Society
The SmallDog Rescue and Humane Society does not operate a rescue shelter. All rescue dogs are temporarily fostered by volunteers until they are adopted. The organization holds adoption days every Saturday from 12 noon to 4 pm at locations in Sandy Springs and Alpharetta, just outside of Atlanta.

The Southern Hope Humane Society, formerly known the Paulding Volunteer Animal Rescue, operates a shelter at 900 Mansell Road in Roswell, outside of Atlanta. Hours of operation are Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 5 pm. Some rescue dogs are also kept in foster homes.
