Best Places for Free E-Cards and E-Greetings

Wendy Dawn
Nothing replaces the thrill of pulling a card out of the mailbox. However, today there are a variety of online card sites that allow you to send e-greetings. One of the best features of these sites is that you can often predate when you want the card sent. That way, when you have time, you can sit down and schedule birthday cards, anniversary cards, and cards for other days like boss's day and secretary's day. Preselect a card for Mother's Day, Father's Day, and even grandparent's day.

When you face an every growing list of card recipients for Christmas or Hanukkah, online cards offer a great solution and can save a lot of money. Take time to go ahead and send a hard copy card to special friends and family, but let other friends and acquaintances know that you haven't forgotten them by sending e-cards.

There are a number of places to get e-cards online for free. The key is to find a site that doesn't download malware or spyware on your computer. There are also as many cheesy sites as there are good ones, so it helps to know in advance where to look for e-cards.

The following sites have quality e-cards and have not downloaded spyware or viruses to my computer. Go ahead while you have time and set up some e-greetings to make someone's day.

Fun, funny, animated e-cards

Some of best animated e-greeting cards are at myfuncards.com. Cards available myfuncards.com are free. Many are new and different. Some of them are edgy and they have a good selection of funny cards. This is a great place to look if you want to send a card for fun. Visit ecards.myfuncards.com.

Romantic and beautiful e-greetings

The very best online cards are available from the best store front card shop: Hallmark. Hallmark offers a great selection of beautiful, romantic songs accompanied by music. They also have a series of cards featuring a couple of cartoon characters known as Hoops and Yoyo. More exclusive cards can be purchased; however, I have always been able to find a most appropriate card from the free selection at www.hallmark.com.

Best variety of e-cards

I enjoy www.123greetings.com. They have an extensive selection of cards for almost any occasion. Another great perk of this site is that it lists every single holiday in a given month. It offers corresponding cards for each holiday.

The downside to this site is that it has a lot of pop-ups and pop-unders. A lot of their advertising slips through popup blockers. Another downside, is that sometimes the card aren't as polished and professional looking as Hallmark or American greetings e- cards. However, the selection of e-cards is worth spending a little time on the site.

Every card at www.123greetings.com is free. You can also modify the background, font color, size, and style of your e-greeting and personalize the message sent with your message. Another perk at www.123greetings.com is that your personalized message is not limited, as it is with some of the other e-card services. You can write as much, or as little as you like. You can also schedule the send date.

If you do not want to receive emails and newsletters from www.123greetings.com, be sure to uncheck the box at the bottom of your card once you are ready to send it.

E-cards and e-greetings with membership

Americangreetings.com has great cards. American Greetings is one of the longstanding greeting card companies. However, americangreetings.com charges a small fee for membership to access their cards. In my opinion, there are enough free e-cards available that I wouldn't join American Greetings. If, however, you want to take a look at the American Greetings collection, they do offer a trial membership.

If you have the time, there is no time like the present to go ahead and preset some cards for delivery. You may be able to make someone's day just by reminding them that you love them, you are thinking of them, or you remember them during a special holiday.

If I wait until the last minute, I will forget to send out cards. I really want people to know they are important and I think about them. I'm going to the free sites now and set up my cards. Don't forget to send your free e-cards.

I wanted to take your advice for the 123greetings but upon seeking a 2nd opinion, the community ratings on Norton state that they've experienced a trojan and adware... I like the thought of a safe ecard download though. I guess you get what you pay (or don't pay) for.

Don't forget to email someone during the holidays....These sites offer a selection for nearly every holiday. I would heed Wes's warning, but if you know the sender and verify that it is one of these well known sites, then I don't think you'll have a problem.

Great resource. Gotta love those e-cards, it saves a trips to the store. It is probably best to just accept them from people who you know because the spammers have definitely got on this bandwagon, as Wes Laurie mentioned.

Nice round-up! I've used all these sites, and generally prefer Hallmark (I'm cheap; I don't want to pay for an American Greetings membership!). Great job!
