Household Income, Educational Attainment, and Property Crime Rates

This article ranks the best places to live in America based on three criteria: (1) median household income (adjusted for cost of living); (2) educational attainment (% of residents 25 years and over who have earned a bachelor's degree or higher); and (3) property crime rates per 1,000 residents (burglary and automobile thefts). For purposes of these rankings, "places" are incorporated municipalities with populations greater than 2,000.

Among the 100 best places to live in America, fourteen are in Illinois, twelve in New York, eleven in Texas, eight in Pennsylvania, seven in New Jersey, seven in Ohio, six in Michigan, five in California, five in Missouri, four in Massachusetts, three in Connecticut, three in Kentucky, three in Tennessee, two in Kansas, two in Maryland, two in Washington, and one each in Alabama, Colorado, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Wisconsin.
