Best Places to Live in New Mexico (2012)

Household Income, Educational Attainment, and Property Crime Rates

This article, the forty-third in a 50-state series, ranks the best places to live in New Mexico based on three criteria: (1) median household income (adjusted for cost of living); (2) educational attainment (% of residents 25 years and over who have earned a bachelor's degree or higher); and (3) property crime rates per 1,000 residents (burglary and automobile thefts). For purposes of these rankings, "places" are incorporated municipalities and census-designated places (CDP) with populations greater than 2,000--more than half of New Mexico's communites are CDP.

Among the ten best places to live in New Mexico, five are suburbs of Albuquerque, three are suburbs of Santa Fe, and two are suburbs of Las Cruces.. By county, eight of the ten best places to live in New Mexico are located in either Santa Fe, Sandoval, Dona Ana, or Los Alamos counties, and the remaining two are located in Bernalillo and Valencia counties, respectively.

    NM is a high tax state, lots of Drunk drivers and a crappy law on how to deal with them. Why so many are arrested dozens of times and never spend a day in jail.

    Cops attitude is shoot first and if you live ask questions second.

    All the politicians are CORRUPT and don't give a damn about the voting public.

    And they allow the indians to have as many tax free casino's as they want, hook people on gambling and keep them in debt.

    Yes I live here but we are moving out, not a good place to live.

    Oh and they keep saying there is NO WATER so cut back and still allow more buildings and homes to be built.

    Go figure that one out.

    In high school geography the teacher asked me what as the cap. of New Mexico and being a wise-arse I said Mexico City.....so I chuckled at the title of this one!
