If you want to enjoy this burst of color in Lower Eastern Michigan some of the local places to visit, are not the places, which cost a lot of money or require anything special other than being in awe of the beauty. Some might charge a small fee but it's sure to be worth it. Don't forget your camera because you want to capture as much of the beauty as possible.
Waterloo Recreation Area, 16345 McClure Road, Chelsea, Michigan. With more than 20,000 acres and 47 miles of hiking trails, there is sure to be plenty to see and enjoy. Reservations (800) 447-2757. Phone 734-475-1830.
Walker J. Hayes State Park, 1220 Wamplers Lake Road, Onsted, Michigan. Phone 517-467-7401. If you have a state park sticker, you can park inside and take a stroll among the trees. If you don't have or want to purchase a state park sticker, simply driving down M-124, better known to the locals as Wamplers Lake Road, is just as gorgeous. You can sometimes even spot deer on the side of the road.
Hidden Lake Gardens, 6280 W. Munger Road, Tipton, Michigan. Hidden Lake Gardens owned and operated by Michigan State University. With 755-acres of botanical garden, which includes a 6 mile paved scenic drive. There are also moiré than 5 miles of marked hiking trails. SMRS or The Southern Michigan Railroad Society. Until October 31st, every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday at 11 am, 1 pm, and 4 pm the train leaves for a two hour round trip, stopping for doughnuts and cider. Reservations are recommended. Reservations can be made by calling 517-456-7677 or 517-423-7230. The train leaves from 806 S. Evans South Rail Yard in Tecumseh. Dress for outside weather.
