Best Playgrounds in Millburn, NJ

Alicia Bodine
Millburn is a wonderful town for raising kids. It has beautiful parks, several of which are just a few miles from each other. Many playgrounds also have basketball and tennis courts for older kids. The whole family can enjoy a nice day together in Millburn. Here's a look at some playgrounds that stand out.

Gero Park

Gero Park is one of the larger parks in Millburn, on 36 acres. For older kids, it has baseball fields, tennis courts with night lighting, roller hockey rinks and basketball courts. For adults, Gero Park has a par-3 golf course. For younger kids, a large playground has monkey bars and several slides, including one that twists around and around. Picnic tables are available. The playground does not allow pets, alcohol or smoking. Gero Park also has a large pool open to Millburn residents during the summer. It has a small pool with a water umbrella suitable for young children and a larger pool with slide for older children. Changing rooms and a snack bar are available. It opens April 1 and closes on Labor Day. Gero Park is at 315 White Oak Ridge Road in Short Hills. Call (973) 379-2221.

Taylor Park

Taylor Park is smaller than Gyro Park by almost half, but it's still one of the nicest parks in Millburn. It has more than one playground with slides, monkey bars, swings and jungle gyms. Families can take a walk along one of the paths or stroll along the pond. There are plenty of picnic tables. Older kids can play on baseball fields, basketball courts and tennis courts. Parking is not free. Taylor Park is at 78 Main St. in Millburn. Call (973) 564-7750.

Brookdale Park

Brookdale Park is Millburn's largest park by far: 121 acres. One of the great things about this park is that it's always being improved upon. It has one of the nicest playgrounds, which recently received a rubberized safety surface. Brookdale also has its own dog park. Some other features include a fitness course, a running track, football field, soccer field, tennis courts, baseball field and an archery field. The park has concerts at night in the summer. Brookdale Park is on Watchung Avenue in Bloomfield. Call (973) 783-9595.
