11. Okami(PS2,2006)
I'm going to be honest. When I first saw Okami at E3 I wasn't that impressed. I didn't think it would be that great of a game, and I didn't really understand all of the hype surrounding it. But when mid-September hits and I pick up this game, I'm blown away. I was almost speechless at how greatly done the art was in this game. And once I got to playing, the gameplay was just as good as the great cel-shaded graphics. This is just one example of how the Playstation 2 is going out with a bang, and why it's dominated the console market over it's competition.
10. Final Fantasy VIII(PS,1997)
I personally had no problem with the gameplay and the junction system for Final Fantasy VIII. Which is the biggest complaint for most people. But even if you didn't like it. You could easily get over it with how great it was graphically, and how great the story was. I mean this game was beautiful, with great characters centering around Squall Leonheart and Rhiona Heartilly giving this game a big romance story. Even though you probably hated Squall for the first 3 and a half discs, you probably didn't hate this game, as it's one of the best in the Final Fantasy series.
9. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2(PS,2000)
Some of you guys out there might not realize how great of a game this is. It's a defining game for the Playstation and the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series. I still consider it the best to this day, even after the last 6 installments of the main series.
8. Final Fantasy X(PS2,2001)
I was tempted not to put this game on this list based solely off that extremely uncomfortable laugh scene, but I guess this game was still great anyway. It was the typical Final Fantasy game as it had amazing visuals, sound, and a great story. But it's story is greater then most others in the series. It features the best storyline since Final Fantasy VI.
7. Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec(PS2,2001)
Even though it didn't have photo-realistic graphics like promised, I was impressed by this game. And after the first 2 installments of Gran Turismo, I didn't think I could be impressed a third time. It simulated perfectly a car racing experience, It's graphics were incredible, even though they weren't what Sony said that would be. This game was just above and beyond it's time.
6. Final Fantasy XII(PS2,2006)
Even after all the delays Square-Enix put us video game fans through before we could get our hands on this game we still stayed loyal. And I for one am excited and hyped up that I did choose to stay loyal becuase this game met up with all of the hype. Square shifting from that traditional turn-based role-playing game was a great choice,. I know there are still you Final Fantasy fanboys out there who can't and won't let go of the old battle system, but come on, we went through more then 10 installments with that battle system, change was needed.
5. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty(PS2,2001)
When it comes to stealth-based games, the Metal Gear Solid series is the cream of the crop. And when it comes to video game characters, I'd say Solid Snake is the cream of the crop as well. He's just so damn cool. It's hard to be a great game without great graphics, which Metal Gear Solid 2 had. You can't be great with great gameplay, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty's tactical stealth gameplay feels great. Konami hit the nail on the head with this game, it was great when you go through the game the first time, and it's great when you're going and trying to collect the dog tags.
4. God of War(PS2,2005)
When God of War came out in 2005, it was hands-down, graphically, and sound wise, the best video game on the PS2. There's so much I could say about how great it's sound and graphics were, that I really can't say anything. The gameplay was seemingly perfect, as there were so many ways to kill your enemies with the great battle system. Not to mention how many things there are to do in this game, and so many things to unlock. I can't think of how God of War II will possibly top it's predecessor.
3. Tekken 3(PS,1998)
Namco's Tekken 3 is easily one of my favorite, and one of the best fighters every created for a video game system. It changed the genre, it maximized the Playstation's potential to create a game with seemingly no flaw to it. It's a game that I lost tons of sleep over, only on a scale that can be compared to the "time-taker" that Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Nintendo Gamecube was.
2. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas(PS2,2004)
Isn't it everybody's dream to be a hardcore "gangsta"? Well if it is, you definitely got your wish if you played Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. What can you not do in this game? It's so open ended that it's basically a definitive mark in for the genre. It's intriguing story, definitely keep you interested. There's even "hot coffee" in this game! Combine all that great gameplay and "coffee" made this game one of the best selling games of all time.
1. Final Fantasy VII(PS,1997)
This list would be invalid without having this game on the list. It's credited by many as the best game for the Playstation One, and the greatest game of all time. Rightly so as it was a game you never wanted to stop playing, it introduced the Final Fantasy series to 3-D, it paved the way for Japanese style role-playing games to prosper in the States, and it has a moment that is considered one of the greatest in video game history. A moment that made grown men cry. You know what I'm talking about. And the music was just incredible, as with many of Square's video games. This was just a fantastic game, and the best game ever put onto a Sony console.
