Best Poems for Funerals

Funeral Poems for Loved Ones

Chelle
Finding the best poems for funerals is not easy. First, it can be hard simply because you may be grieving the loss of someone close to you. It can also be difficult to find something meaningful to say during the memorial service or have printed on a prayer card. While writing something on your own would be perfect, it can be hard in a time of grief to find exactly the right words to say. For this reason, I've collected some great sources for finding the best poems for funerals. Since I cannot list the poems here due to copyright reasons, I have instead included the title, author, and a place online where you can find these poems to read.

Remember by Christina Rossetti
This is one of the best poems for funerals, as it is about remembering the person you have lost - but that it is better to forget them and smile than remember and be sad. You can read it in its entirety here.

When I'm Gone by by Mrs.Lyman Hancock
This poem is about remembering only the good things about a person when they are gone and is very heartwarming. You can read this poem here.

Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep by Mary Elizabeth Frye
This poem is about living on past death through heaven and is one of the most well known and popular best poems for funerals. You can view this poem here.

Joy in Death by Emily Dickinson
This poem is about how even though the bells toll in sadness, they should be rejoicing as someone has entered heaven. It can be read here.

Play Jolly Music at My Funeral by Richard Greene
This poem is about not being sad at a funeral (as hard as that may be!) You can view this poem here.

Keep Me in Your Heart by Warren Zevon
The lyrics of this song are very beautiful and touching. You can read them here.

I Will Remember You by Sarah Mclachlan
Perhaps one of the saddest songs I have ever heard, it can be beautiful to use as a poem for a funeral. You can read the lyrics here.

These are some of the most popular poems for funerals that have brought many people comfort during a sad time and can thoughtfully help you cope with losing a loved one. For some more best poems for funerals, you may also enjoy the ones on the site whenimdeadandgone.com.

Thank you. This is very nice. My wife use to volunteer to play the dulcimer at the wake of a family member.
