Best Practice for Capturing Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP)

EQUIPMENT: Use cheap recorders. I have several but one that works pretty well is a $30 to $40 Wal-Mart digital recorder. RCA RP5022. You hook the USB cable in to the recorder and your computer and just dump your audio in. Very Easy. Another good piece of recording equipment (Serious), use the "Voice Memo" feature on your cell phone. I have several old LG cell phones that they capture a lot. Even more than my RCA recorders. Let me explain why you should use cheap equipment. First of all, the human ear can hear between 300 to 600 Hz. Digital (or tape) recorders capture everything from 0 to 1000 Hz. EVPs usually come in between 150 and 250 Hz. Good sounding recorders (Expensive) ones have great sound quality because they filter out the "Other" sounds. What they filter is the ranges that EVPs come through. Another reason to use cheap recorders is: they have built in "White Noise". White Noise is the "Hissing" sound you get with cheaper recorders. This is material that the spirits use to "Make Speech". Using this type of equipment has allowed me to catch a lot more, and better quality EVPs than the proponents of "Expensive" equipment.

SOFTWARE: I have two programs that I use to analyze audio. Both are free to download, just keyword search them on the Internet. The one that I use the most is called "Audacity". The software will allow you to manipulate the audio to try to understand it better. You can AMP the suspected EVP area, or filter out the "Background" noise, or slow down, speed up...etc. Free and easy to use. The second one that is free and good is called "Wavepad". This one is a little more advanced. You can do more things with this one.

INVESTIGATION: Hear are some tips that we have learned for doing a good investigation. Either a cemetery, residence, abandoned building, it does'nt't matter. Works with all. Say a prayer for protection (if you want). Talk to them like they are people. They were. They had jobs, families, bills,...etc just like us. Explain why you are there. Not to hurt them but to study the Paranormal and help them if you can. Explain your recorder. Tell them it makes a copy of their voice that you can hear later. Let them know if you find something you will come back to let them know what you heard. If possible, video record you session too. More evidence that your EVP's are real. Take pictures. Ask them to show themselves for the camera. Say "I am going to take a picture right in front of me in 5 seconds. Then count, 1...2...3...4...5, snap. This gives them time to get in front of you and draw the energy they need for manifestation. When you are done with the investigation, say a closing prayer (if you want). At minimum, tell the to STAY. DO NOT FOLLOW ME HOME. I know that sounds strange, but I have brought more than one home before doing this. I have recorded 3 or 4 in my car while LEAVING an investigation. Kind of like, someone is paying attention to me, maybe I should go home with them.
