The first thing you need to do is go to Home Depot or your local hardware store and get some supplies such as a stiff scrub brush and a good floor degreaser, A nap paint roller and an extension pole. You should also get a good respirator or at least a painters mask. The Rust-Oleum product is environmentally friendly but still could make you dizzy without proper ventilation. The best product for sealing your garage floor is the two-part epoxy kit from Rust-Oleum. That can be found at Home Depot. If you are into online shopping you can also find it at target and epaintstore. The rust-Oleum product is a kit and includes the cleaner and the two part floor cleaner. It also has decorative chips that can be stirred into the sealant. Very nice looking when finished. It even has a instructional DVD.
First step to sealing your garage floor is to remove everything from your garage floor. If you are a pack rat then a daunting task this may be. This is a good excuse for spring cleaning. Next you want to sweep, sweep and sweep your floor until it is free of dust and dirt. Tip: if you have a air compressor and air hose then you can blow your garage floor after you give it a once over with the broom. A leaf blower should work as well. Now take your degreaser and whatever other cleaner you have and follow the instructions as to how to apply it. Usually you let it sit for a good 15 minutes or longer and then scrub the stains with that stiff brush you bought. Repeat as many times as necessary.
Now after cleaning and drying the floor completely it is time to start the sealing process. I recommend watching the DVD if you go with the rust-Oleum product at least once. A good time to watch the DVD is while the floor is drying. Now you should be careful when applying the sealant not to get it on anything but the garage floor. It is always recommended to start in a back corner or other inconspicuous area. Using your nap roller simply apply the sealant evenly across the floor. Wait a few hours or so for it to dry and then you should be all set. Now stand there and admire your reflection in the nice shiny floor, ok long enough, now move your items back into your garage carefully.

Post a CommentI'll have to do this next spring, great info.
I've thought about doing this but also wondered about getting out the stains we have. I wonder if the degreaser will be tough enough. I think I'll give it a try! Thanks for the encouragement and advice : Appreciated!
