Best Restaurants to Eat During Summer Restaurant Week in New York City

T. H. Pankey
There are oodles and noodles of restaurants in New York City to choose from when going out to eat. However, not all of them participate in Summer Restaurant Week. Here are a couple of the best restaurants to eat during Summer Restaurant Week in New York City.

'21' Club

Well known yesteryear as a glamorous speakeasy, " today '21' is one of the most celebrated restaurants in New York City and is still the place to see and be seen. "

In fact, the list of popular persons frequenting '21' is long and varied, but here's a sampling of who has only just recently visited the restaurant: Manning brothers together, Peyton and Cooper for lunch on June 18; Donald Trump and Senator John Kerry in on the evening of June 16; and Yankee legend Yogi Berra in the afternoon of June 2.

What to look for on the '21'Club Summer Restaurant Week menu when not looking around the rest of the restaurant for someone from the movies, jet-set world, etc.:

Appetizer:

Salmon Tartare with avocado, hearts of palm, pea shoots, celery vinaigrette

or

Grilled Calamari with compressed watermelon, arugula, lemon-caper vinaigrette

Main Course:

Sautéed Market Fish with cucumber-lime couscous, radish salad, lemon-dill butter

or

Organic Grilled Chicken Breast that's peach glazed with cheddar cheese hominy, English peas, smoked ham jus

Dessert:

Crème Brûlée with key lime sablé

or

Lemon Chiffon "Pie" with a graham crust and strawberry coulis

The Summer Restaurant Week menu offered by the '21' Club has several more scrumptious dishes than the above suggestions.

Luncheon is $24.07 and Dinner is $35.00, not including beverages, tax and gratuity.

You should note, too, '21' wants you to enjoy a complimentary cocktail or glass of wine for you and your guests in celebration of its 80th anniversary if you make your lunch or dinner reservation through its website by clicking here.

This offer is separate from its Summer Restaurant Week menu and ostensibly can't be combined with it. Inquiring at '21' of the possibility of combining the two offers together can make for greater business to '21' and an even more pleasant experience for you and your guests while both the restaurant and you take part in Summer Restaurant Week in New York city. Don't shy.

Officially, Summer Restaurant Week in New York city is from July 12 through July 31. However, '21' is extending the last day of its Summer Restaurant Week through August 15.

Delmonico's

Have you ever wondered how that restaurant expression, "86'd," got its start? Delmonico's Restaurant, one of America's first fine dining restaurants, if not the first, had as number 86 on its printed menu (another first of firsts in America) its house special, the, now, far-famed Delmonico Steak. When it was sold out, it was "86'd."

Over and above the now ubiquitous "86'd" expression for sold out as Delmonico's claim to fame, is what was "sold out" so often, the already-mentioned house cut of beef menu item number 86 was attached to, the boneless ribeye or Delmonico Steak.

While you won't get to sample it if ordering from Delmonico's Summer Restaurant Week menu, what you will get to eat of Delmonico's other culinary delights is sure to please, nearly as well.

What to look for on Delmonico's Summer Restaurant Week menu:

Appetizer:

Summer Tomato Soup with Marjoram and Basil

or

Fresh Rigatoni Pasta with artichoke, olive, arugula, tomato and smoked mozzarella

Entree:

Classic Beef Stroganoff, Shaved Filet of Beef over Rice (served for lunch only)

or

Filet Mignon, 10 Ounce Beef Tenderloin served with Accompaniments ( served for dinner only)

Dessert:

Vanilla Bean Cheesecake

or

Delmonico's Chocolate Brownie

Delmonico's participation in Summer Restaurant Week in NYC means its lunch price is $24.07 and its dinner price is $35.00, excluding beverages, tax and service. Delmonico's is offering an extended Summer Restaurant Special with a Special Summer Menu, starting June 2., apart from the city's official Summer Restaurant Week. Click here to make reservations for either Summer Special from Delmonico's.

That's great to know about Restaurant Week. I'm glad it's become so popular! I've never been to '21', but based on this I may just take a drive in to the city for it. Love Delmonaco's. Nice review!
