Schoenberger's Restaurant is a very romantic restaurant to take that special someone to. My husband and I have dined at Schoenberger's a few times and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service.
Schoenberger's Restaurant opened at its current location, 346 Lincoln Way East in Chambersburg, in 1913 and was a luncheonette that served the Cumberland Valley Model Railroad that was located across the street. Later, in the 1930s, Schoenberger's grew and has since become one of Chambersburg's finest restaurants. Schoenberger's Restaurant was known in the early years for their fine seafood and draft beer. Today, Schoenberger's Restaurant has a full bar and lounge.
Schoenberger's Restaurant has a nice menu to choose from with popular entrees such as Broiled Crab Cakes, Alaskan King Crab Legs, Prime Rib, Honey Pecan Pork Chops and Chicken and Crab Saute. For an appetizer you can order Baked French Onion Soup, Shrimp Cocktail, Baked Potato Skins, and many types of salads. Schoenberger's Restaurant also has a children's menu, but I recommend leaving the kids behind when you go here! It is too nice and too romantic to take the children along!
Entree prices range from $12 to $25. Dress is casual. Schoenberger's Restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday from 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. For reservations, call 717-263-1137.
Another nice, upscale, romantic restaurant my husband and I have dined at in the past is the Copper KettleRestaurant, located at 1049 Lincoln Way East in Chambersburg. My husband and I went to the Copper Kettle Restaurant for our anniversary a couple of years ago and we were very impressed with the food and the service.
The Copper Kettle Restaurant has been open in Chambersburg for many years and they are well known for their Prime Rib. They also serve great crab cakes that have very little filler. The food at Copper Kettle is moderately priced and two people can dine there for around $50.00. For the average-income person, it is not a restaurant you could eat out in every week but it's a nice treat for a special occasion. For reservations, call 717-264-3109.
My husband and I have dined many times at The Orchards Restaurant, located at 1580 Orchard Drive in Chambersburg. The owners of The Orchards Restaurant came to the United States from Greece back in the 1960s and opened their first restaurant in Chambersburg, Texas Lunch Restaurant. They expanded the business and beside the Texas Lunch Restaurant, they opened the Texas Inn, which was a fancier, more upscale dining experience. In 1995, they opened The Orchards Restaurant to carry on the tradition of the Texas Inn, but to offer more space for banquets.
The Orchards Restaurant provides an elegant dining experience like no other in Chambersburg. Their food is prepared by highly-skilled chefs and their service is the best. The atmosphere screams romantic from the low lights and soft music. The lounge at The Orchards has a very intimate, classy appeal and their bartenders are top notch. Many local businesses prefer to dine for lunch at The Orchards.
The Orchards Restaurant lunch menu includes tempting items such as buffalo wings, Caesar salad, your choice of club sandwiches, specialty sandwiches, steak, seafood and chicken entrees. Price for lunch ranges from $5 to $12. The Orchards Restaurant dinner menu includes items such as a baked crap dip appetizer, specialty salads, seafood and chicken pasta dishes, stuffed shrimp, Chicken Cordon Bleu, and high quality steak entrees. Dinner prices range from $16 to $36.
My husband and I do not drink alcohol, but we have been told by many that the wine list at The Orchards Restaurant is superb. They carry imported and domestic wines that range in price from $18 up to $325 per bottle.
Because of the popularity of The Orchards Restaurant, it is always wise to make reservations. You can contact their staff at 717-264-4711.
The Cottage Restaurant & Pub, located at 572 Wayne Avenue in Chambersburg, is a family run restaurant and pub that offers an intimate, casual lounge and a smoke-free dining room. The Cottage Restaurant is a romantic setting, but it is also very nice for work lunches. When I was still working, my co-workers and I would often eat lunch at The Cottage Restaurant. Their food is out of this world and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
The Cottage Restaurant first opened in 1933 and has continued to grow in popularity. Legend has it that the very first owner, Nellie Goble, opened the restaurant daily with a fresh keg of beer and when the key was kicked, she closed the doors!
The Cottage Restaurant is also famous for their catering talents. The Cottage Restaurant will cater any size affair, from small lunches, to weddings, to class reunions.
For lunch, you can start off with "Munchies" such as Maryland crab loaf, stuffed portabella mushrooms, and fire fries. For your meal, The Cottage serves shrimp bisque soup, a delicious assortment of salads, black Angus burger series and specialty sandwiches. Lunch prices range from $5 to $15.
For dinner, you can start off with some buffalo wings that range from mild to "devil" hot! The Cottage Restaurant serves delicious beef dishes such as prime rib and Kansas City strip steak. Or, if you are more of a seafood eater, you can get crab cakes or broiled haddock. Dinner prices range from $13 - $24. The Cottage Restaurant also has a vegetarian menu.
For reservations, or for catering information, you can call the Cottage Restaurant at 717-264-8543.
Out of the four restaurants I mentioned above, I would say The Cottage is the most casual. The Cottage Restaurant is known for fun and unique ownerships over the years. My favorite out of these four restaurants would have to be The Orchards Restaurant. My husband and I have celebrated many anniversaries and Valentine's Day dinners there and we have never been disappointed. Even though many restaurants have come and gone throughout the years, these top four dining experiences are here to stay.
