**Best Rum Cocktails for a 4th of July Party Celebration

Very Simple Rum Cocktail Recipes that Will Astonish

Leigh Wear
Toast to the Independence of our Nation this Fourth of July with one or more showy rum cocktails that are sure to impress. These three recipes are universally liked and perfect for a Fourth of July party. Best of all they are simple to make so the host isn't stuck behind the bar and instead enjoys the festivities as well as the libations.

Patriotic Strawberry Daiquiri
My favorite choice for Fourth of July entertaining is the most obvious summer rum drink: the daiquiri. The classic frozen strawberry daiquiri is always a hit and with a twist is very impressive. Also it is a particularly good choice because the virgin recipe is a nice treat for non-drinkers. I make this spruced up version every year and am always amazed by the "Oohs" and "Aahs" because it is so effortless.
Prepare a frozen strawberry daiquiri mix sold in cans at the supermarket, but near the finish of blending add a handful of fresh strawberries -- to give it a bit of a homemade taste. It is important to serve the daiquiris in a clear cup or glass of some sort. I prefer a frosted beer mug. It isn't the typical daiquiri stemware, but I like the presentation it provides. Fill the clear mugs or glasses with the strawberry and rum mixture but leave at least ½ inch of space from the rim; top generously with a swirled portion of canned whip cream; sprinkle red and blue sugar crystals on top; insert red or blue striped straws; and serve to a delighted crowd.

Blue Hawaiian
This is another extremely simple rum cocktail fitting for a Fourth of July gathering. There are many variations of the recipe, but the simple one to make quickly at parties is one part White Rum, one part blue Curacao, two parts pineapple juice; shake over ice and pour into a glass. Again, don't hide the festive blue color; use something clear. I typically use a martini glass, but there isn't a rule. Add a stemmed maraschino cherry to complete the patriotic theme. (My recipe is very easy for quick mixing, but commonly this recipe also includes Coconut Rum or Cream or Coconut-it may be fun experimenting while you plan your party.)

Grapefruit Hiding in a Pineapple
A final rum cocktail that will get rave reviews at your holiday party doesn't have the red, white and blue color theme. But, it is most definitely a tribute to summer and a special occasion. The actual drink is the quick to create Hidden Grapefruit, but serving it in a pineapple shell will cause guests to reminisce of a tropical get-away and give the host more credit than is due. Obtaining the pineapple shell is very easy if you have the right tool. The Vacu-Vin Pineapple Slicer is a handy gadget that really works. Slice the top off of a fresh, washed pineapple; push in the tool and twist. The pineapple comes out in a perfect spiral in seconds. The fruit is handy for an appetizer or garnish, but not needed for the drink. The hollowed out pineapple is the spotlight of this rum cocktail. Prepare your pineapples a few hours in advance and place shells in the freezer. The core will remain in the pineapple and serve as a chiller for the drink that won't water it down. Just before serving remove the shells from the freezer and fill with Hidden Grapefruit. The drink is simply 1 part Mango Rum, 1 part orange Juice, 1 part cranberry juice shaken over ice. Serve with a straw and a cocktail napkin. Add a tiny umbrella purchased at a party shop to make a superior statement. Guests will never know this drink only took a couple of minutes to create.

Rum lends itself particularly well to the fun, festive and fruity cocktails most everyone enjoys. These drinks are easily tailored to celebrate Independence Day and are great selections for all summer parties. Simple recipes allow the host or hostess to keep the glasses full while mingling with guests and enjoying the holiday.
