Using the large array of 3D tools is a very complex process, however in order to actually ensure that you are getting the highest quality out of your 3D creations, it is very important that you take some time to carefully learn how to use the programs. There are a wide range of programs that can create sculpts or 3D objects, but there are some that are better than others, and there is also a huge array of price changes amongst those programs as well.
Maya is one of the most commonly used amongst high-end 3D designers; it is a very powerful program that can handle a very large array of applications. Using many of the different features of Maya it is possible to create a very realistic 3D object, and even create components that are used for applications such as video games, and even videos. However, due to the features and quality of the program, it is quite far out of the reach of most budgets.
Blender is another option. As a free and open source solution, this is great for anyone who is on a budget, or who appreciates looking for ways to modify the software that they are using. Because Blender is free and open source, it is really easy to play around with the source code and tweak the functions to your exact needs, rather than simply hoping for good results with the default setups. Using the open source nature of the program also makes it possible to create plug-ins that are designed specifically for the way in which you intend to use the software, while other 3D programs also offer plug-in support, they are not typically as easy to create because the software is not open source.
3DS Max can be an amazing tool for 3D creation as well. With power comparable to Maya, but a few additional features and easy to use handling it is another highly popular option for people to consider when they are looking for 3D creation software. The price is a bit lower than Maya, but it is often still outside of the price range. Typically, this is another program that is reserved for those that are doing 3D creation on a professional level, but the options and capabilities are still quite large.
Another highly inexpensive 3D creation program is Wings3D. While it is not open source such as Blender, it is still a free program that is capable of producing some very respectable results with a bit of time spent learning how to master the program. Because it is not quite as good as Maya or even 3DS Max, the program is not used by everyone in the professional 3D graphics field, but it can still produce some quality work.
