Best Seafood Restaurants in Hua Hin, Thailand -- Oceanside or in the Town, These Eateries Are Superb
Thailand's Top Beach Destination Has an Excellent Choice of Restaurants, from Cheap to Exclusive
Hua Hin is Thailand's top beach destination. Less than a three hour drive from Bangkok, Hua Hin is the home of the King of Thailand, when he's not taking care of royal business in the capital city, so Thais as well as foreign visitors flock to this royal paradise. Known for its enormous beach, fresh seafood, excellent night market and many superb seafood restaurants, Hua Hin is the perfect place for visitors who love food. World-class seafood is in abundance here, with the town's best restaurants serving the freshest fish and seafood you've ever eaten.
Hua Hin's Night Market - Before you even start branching out and eating in a sit-down air-conditioned restaurant, you must start your forage for Hua Hin's best seafood restaurants at the famous night market. There's an abundance of street stalls here, all serving authentic Thai food and for any lover of the 'real deal' and not the Thai food served up to tourists, the night market is the first place to stop.
Pick up a few squid on a stick with a spicy dipping sauce, or a bowl of noodles with fish balls at one of the markets many food carts. Or, sit at an al fresco sea food restaurant crammed into the market and enjoy some of the freshest fish and seafood you've ever had (don't forget, it's caught right in the area so was likely swimming that morning). Finish off your meal with several small traditional Thai desserts -- from jellies, to custard, to Thai rice pudding -- it's all available here.
Chao Lay Seafood (Pier Restaurant) - Hua Hin is known for what are called 'pier restaurants' -- small restaurants located on tiny wooden piers that jut out into the ocean. Several of these are situated on Naresdamri Road, but one of the best, for food and atmosphere, is Chao Lay Seafood. A bit more rustic than some of the others, prices are inexpensive and the quality of food is wonderful.
At Chao Lay, you'll eat from a large menu of seafood and traditional Thai dishes -- prawns, shrimp, crab, squid, eel, fish, curried fish dishes, rice with seafood, whole fried fish, tom kah gai (spicy coconut soup with chicken) -- there's such a large selection, the best idea is to order five or six dishes (or more!) for your group and share. All of this while sitting out on a large wooden deck area, cooled by calm sea breezes and hearing the waves lapping on the shore. It's truly lovely,
La Mer - One of the most best and most famous seafood restaurants in Hua Hin, La Mer is located out of Hua Hin's main town area on a cliff near Khao Takiab Beach. Right on the water, looking back towards Hua Hin, you'll find an enormous patio , twinkling fairy lights, calmly lapping waves and quiet music playing in the background. No wonder so many Thais say it's one of Hua Hin's most romantic restaurants.
La Mer has a huge selection of fresh fish and seafood, much of which is charged by weight. The atmosphere here is lovely, the service impeccable, and the quality of food rivals any five-star seafood restaurant anywhere, yet the price is far cheaper.
To get to La Mer take a taxi or a tuk-tuk. It's less than a 10 minute drive and any taxi or tuk-tuk driver in Hua Hin knows exactly how to get there.
