I took on writing this article and learned so much valuable information! I suggest you check your local Senior Centers to get involved and make the most of your life. I cannot wait to become 55 years old so I can become part of the Seniors in the Park Program.

Seniors in the Park is located at 504 West Starin Road in Whitewater, Wisconsin. They offer many activities for people 55 years and up. Most of the activities are free unless stated.

Activities that are offered at the Senior Center:

Do you love to read? A book club that meets once a month and offers free books to read.

Bowling once a week at Hawk's Bowling Ally located in Whitewater.

Different card groups that get together every week, two weeks, and three weeks.

Feeling artistic? Try your hands at ceramics which is offered September through May. Create something special for your family or close friends.

Check mate! Chess is offered once a week and all levels of players are welcome.

Many different computer classes are offered. Don't be left behind! There is a fee charged.

Computer User Group: Meets every month. The group shares information, give and receives help, and occasionally has featured speakers.

Discussion and Discovery meets once a week from September through December to discuss Great World Religions. A minimal fee.

Feeling lucky to win Dominoes? You can play once a week.

Love to write? Golden Quills Writing Group mets once a month. The group preserves and shares stories of a simpler time.

Life-long Learning Series is held once a month. Speakers give presentations on a variety of topics. Dessert is even served!

Exercise class meets twice a week for fifty cents each. Do not miss Stretch and Flex!

Potluck is once a month where you bring a dish to pass. Following the meal is Dominoes.

For only $3.00 a class you can participate in Watercolor Class. Beginners are welcome. Sounds like something I want to put on my Bucket List! (To do before I die.)

B-I-N-G-O! Each week with a different local restaurant sponsoring it. Local businesses donate prizes. A senior friend told me this was really fun and has great prizes. One prize is an ice cream cone gift certificate from Culvers. How about an ice cream cone on a steaming summer day to cool you down? And the topping is, it is a free cone you won!

The fourth Tuesday is Movie Day. Popcorn is served and there is no charge. What a steal compared to the movie theater prices these days.

Once a month there is a senior meeting for anyone to attend. The meeting encourages seniors to attend to discuss the direction of the programming.

Twice a month Wellness Warriors is held. This group helps you with your personal wellness. Guest speakers scheduled throughout the year.

Services this wonderful center offers are:

Blood pressure screening once a month. Free!

Foot Care once a month. For $19.00 you can get a foot soak, massage, and nail trim. Sounds heavenly to me!

Many senior forms such as Benefit Specialist Senior Care Applications, Power of Attorney for Health Care, and Disabled Parking ID Cards.

You may have the newsletter delivered to your home for one year at $5.00. Or free if you choose to pick up the letter yourself.

Gift Certificates are available to give to your loved ones so they may enjoy a trip activity. Tell your children it is what you want for Christmas!

Interesting and Inexpensive Greeting Cards are available for purchase.

Nutrition Program is offered for a donation of a suggested $2.25 Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m. If unable to contribute to the donation, folks are still welcome.

All of these items add value to ones life and well-being. I thought I would have to live in a nursing home to get all of these benefits! What a wonderful surprise that I can live in my home when I become a senior (health-willing) and enjoy so many activities for free to a low charge! Talk about Golden Years.

Other interesting and/or fun things that are offered in March: Life Long Learning. An author spoke about 150,000 children from New York City area that had moved through the placing out system, which essentially treated them like livestock. The kids were handed out at train stations to unknown adults. The author's grandmother was one of those children and he shares her incredible story.

Information on the IRS Refund- Stimulus Payment

AARP Tax Assistance

Keeping up with the ever changing world. Digital television is coming-are you ready?

IPOD Class- Learn what one is and how to use it. I could use this class!

Wii Fun - Four bowling dates. No longer do you have to lift a heavy bowling ball! Great for people with arthritis or any other ailments that prevent you from bowling.

Understanding The Grief Experience. Ongoing grief support. I am sure it is horribly difficult to lose one's spouse after being together for so many years. Friends and family, too, after being a part of their lives for so long.

Raffles such as an afghan one going on right now. The money raised will go towards a new van for the center.

Fundraiser Contest- Guess how many pennies a woman donated in a jar. Win a $5.00 gift card from a local grocery store. The goal is to collect one million pennies. The group is at 38,753 pennies as of February 21st!

Shopping outings, luncheon outings, fish fry Fridays (big tradition in Wisconsin) to go out for fish that evening, and more!

A big trip planned is to the Milwaukee Museum to see "Body Worlds and Downtown Milwaukee." My friends and I are going to drive ourselves to see that display!

Body Worlds showcases more than two hundred real human specimens. It sounds so fascinating for generations to come to be educated on health and you get to see the insides of the human body on the complexities of the muscles, tendons, and blood vessels that make up our bodies.

The Senior Center's website is very detailed on their information. The website even posts a menu for the seniors for the Monday through Friday luncheons.

Life never has to be boring! I look forward to keeping busy one day when I retire. Isn't it nice knowing that when we age there is something to look forward to?
