When it comes to picking the colors for your kitchen, decide what features you would like to emphasize and what you would like to deemphasize. Highlight the features using contrasting colors. A darker shade on the shorter walls and a lighter shade on the longer walls can make your room appear wider. Keep in mind that the lighting arrangement in your room influences the appearance of your kitchen. So select your colors accordingly and try them in a small area to get a feel for their tone before you upgrade your kitchen. You can also use the color tool from the manufacturer's website to mix and match Sherwin-Williams paint colors to get a feel for how your kitchen would look.
Cool colors like blue, green, violet can be soothing while warm colors like red, orange, yellow infuse energy and enthusiasm. Select your colors to reflect the ambiance you like. Harmonize the colors with your counter-top, appliance colors and flooring. Some Sherwin-Williams Color schemes that I like for a kitchen are listed below.
1. For a meditative atmosphere, pick a shade of a light blue like Sherwin-Williams 4698-Byte Blue to reflect the color of the sky or the sea. Pick a darker blue with a purple tinge like Sherwin-Williams 6544-Mesmerize to emphasize features like your crown molding and decorative trims.
2. For a lively look, pick Sherwin-Williams 6691-Gliltzy Gold. use a monotone or contrast with a shade of white like Sherwin-Williams 6042-Hush White.
3. For a traditional look, go with shades of cream or beige like Sherwin-Williams 6113-Interactive cream and use browns like Sherwin-Williams 6055-Fiery Brown for highlighting accents. Make sure your cabinets blend well or contrast well with these colors.
4. Intense shades of red give your kitchen an energizing look and contrast well with lighter colored cabinets. Try Sherwin-Williams 6864-Cherry Tomato.
5. Another neutral color you can pick is a shade of grey like Sherwin-Williams 6185-Escape Grey. Contrast it with any bright color you like.
6. For a bold look, try some of the electrifying colors like Sherwin-Williams 6921-Electric Lime.
You can also use Sherwin-Williams Faux-Finish line of products to apply sponging, ragging, combing and crackling effects to your walls.
Use accents and furniture that blend into the decor of your kitchen. Add a tiled back splash to your counter and decorative knobs to your cabinets. Display your chinaware in glass-door cabinets. Select appropriate rugs, lighting fixtures and wall-hangings to compliment your wall colors.
Sherwin-Williams paint costs about $30-$50 per gallon. Though a little more expensive than its counterparts, it gives you its worth. You can buy the paint from their showrooms (their website lists the addresses of their showrooms).
So deck your kitchen this spring with Sherwin-Williams paint and add some spice to life!
