Best Shore Dives on Kauai

If you are an experienced diver looking for shore dives on the island of Kauai, look no further. Kauai has some great dive spots that you will not need a boat to get to. This is a guide to the best shore dives on the island of Kauai.

To get you started you will first need to get some equipment. There are three dive shops on the island of Kauai that rent diving gear. Fathom Five Divers (808-742-6991) in Koloa, Bubbles Below (808-332-7333) out of Port Allen Harbor, and Dive Kauai (808-822-0452) in Kalahae. The staff at these shops are great, and they can help point you in the direction of some great dive spots, so do not be afraid to ask.

Okay, now you have your gear, where do you go?

The north shore has some great off shore dive spots. Ke'e Beach located at the end of Highway 560 is the most popular beach on all of Kauai, so this might be a busy spot for diving. But on calm days the diving is incredible. The off shore reef is filled with fish and is perfect for exploring. Just south of Haena Beach on the north shore you will find Tunnels. Tunnels is the best off shore scuba diving spot on Kauai. The outer reef is great for exploring through lava tunnels and arches. Tunnels is what scuba diving is all about.

Kahala Point on the east shore at Anahola Beach is another great off shore scuba diving sight. At Kahala Point you will find a large well protected reef with tons of fish. Getting to the dive sight can be a bit difficult as you meander over ragged lava while being pummeled by waves to the water. Anahola Beach Park is designated Hawaiian Homelands so you will see a lot of local Hawaiians enjoying this sandy beach, but scuba divers, and all others, are welcome.

Koloa Landing on the south shore of Kauai at Hanaka'ape Bay is also a great diving spot. The water entry is very easy, and this is a great dive spot for beginners. The horseshoe shaped reef makes this an easy two dive experience. One side of the horseshoe is great for exploring the reef and lava tubes, the other side has a ton of tropical fish and sea turtles. This dive sight gets rave reviews from those that visit.

Have not been back to Kauai since the year before Iniki... Maui since then. Your article reminds me it is time to return.
