1) Granola Bars:
These come in so many different flavors and kinds. However I would say my favorite so taking hiking or camping would have to be either chocolate chip or peanut butter flavored ones.
2) Fresh fruit or veggies:
There are so many great choices for taking along on a hike or a camping trip. Some of my favorites would be bananas, baby carrots, celery sticks, apples, a plastic bag of grapes (these taste really good frozen).
3) Crackers:
Again there are a lot of flavors out there. Personally I like to bring Ritz crackers and slices of summer sausage, and slices of cheddar cheese. You can also top crackers with peanut butter, tuna, other cheeses, or just leave plain.
4) Beef Jerky:
This is an easy to find, easy to carry, and quick to eat and walk snack.
5) Sunflower seeds:
Bring a zip lock bag full or purchase a few individual bags of sunflower seeds and you will have a quick and easy, and healthy snack for hiking.
6) Trail Mix:
You can either buy a store mixed kind or mix your own. There are several great recipes out there or you can just mix your favorite cereals or snacks together to make a mix that fits your personal taste.
(Here are a few different trail mix recipes I found)
Deluxe Trail Mix
Ingredients:
* 1 cup wheel pretzels
* 1 cup peanuts
* 1 cup raisins
* 1 cup plain M&Ms
* 1/2 cup Skittles
* 1/2 cup chocolate chips
* 1/2 cup peanut butter chips
Directions: Mix them all together in a zip lock baggie.
Kids Trail Mix
Ingredients:
* 1 cup corn puff cereal
* 1 cup Cheerios
* 1 cup cheddar Goldfish snacks
* 1/2 cup raisins
Directions: Mix all ingredients together in a plastic baggy. If making it a couple of days before the trip keep ingredients fresh by storing the first three in a plastic container and raisins in another container.
7) Rice Crispy Treats:
Again these can be store bought or made at home. With the price of things currently being so expensive I personally prefer to make them at home.
(Here is a recipe for rice crispy treats that I love)
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
* 3 Tbsp. butter
* 10 oz. marshmallows or 4 cups miniature marshmallows
* 6 cups crispy rice cereal
Preparation:
1. Spray a 13 x 9 pan and a rubber spatula with cooking spray.
Optional: Line the pan with parchment paper or waxed paper for easy removal of the treats.
2. In a 3-quart saucepan, heat butter and marshmallows over medium heat until melted.
3. Remove from heat, and immediately stir in the cereal, using the prepared spatula.
4. Spread into the prepared pan. Flatten gently with the spatula. Let cool and harden completely. Cut into squares.
8) Bottled Water:
This is probably the most important "snack" to bring. You need to make sure when you are outside; especially hiking and doing other active things that you drink plenty of water. IF you don't many horrible things can happen and that won't make for a fun hiking or camping trip.
