Best Songs to Belt Out

The Women

J Gorman
I'm sure we have all sung in the shower when we were home alone at some point or another. Have you ever had trouble thinking of a good song to sing that would cater to your voice and ability? I've compiled a list for your convenience.

Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive

With this song, it doesn't even really matter where you are. It's hard not to get into the lyrics and her emphatic voice. I would be willing to bet money that no woman can listen to this song without, at one point or another, really getting into it.

Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You

There is no denying Whitney's talent. Come to think, I'm even unsure of whether there are any other Whitney's in show business. And even so, I doubt they would even make a dent in her ability. The best part about singing this song in the shower is that you'll never come in too early with the chorus.

Denise Williams - Let's Hear It for the Boy

Be careful during this one that you don't move around too much. It's hard to keep still, but it is in your best interests not to slip and fall on the shower floor.

Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Are Made for Walking

Time to practice those low notes. This one is also great for experimenting with your sultriness. It is possible to have soul in the shower, no matter what anyone might say.

Mariah Carey - Always Be My Baby

This one could get tricky, because there's a lot of music before the lyrics, and in order to get in the right mindset, you might need to hear the beginning. But the plus side is that it will allow you to work on your oh's, do-do's, and all around other musical noises. They can be fun.

Aretha Franklin - Respect

This one is the power song. You really need to feel it. Although the order of the songs is up to you, it's probably best not to place this one first. You might need a warm-up. But once you get it, really go for it. Don't worry about the chorus, for this exercise, you're Aretha, and you sound like it, no matter what your neighbors might say.

Now what are you waiting for? Go make the play list and get in the shower. Maybe first you should kick everyone else out of the house. But then it's time for the makeshift studio. Bathrooms are perfect sound quality for these purposes.
