Best Songs for a New Year's Eve Party

Your Playlist to a Rockin' New Year's Eve

Michelle K. Miller
New Year's Eve is approaching, and if you are hosting a New Year's Eve party, or are in charge of the playlist for one your friends or family members, you'd better be sure you have a playlist fit for the party. In my humble opinion, I believe that a lot of favorite club and dance songs will suffice, along with other upbeat favorites. Slower songs, aside from Auld Lang Syne, just aren't good enough, because ringing in the New Year, is supposed to be a party. Having a playlist fitting of a party, is essential. Here are some songs I believe should be on your playlist.

Macarena, The Electric Slide, The Cha-Cha Slide

These three songs are essential if you have a group of people that like to line dance. Not only does the music provide entertainment for your guests, but seeing everyone participate in line dancing, can be quite amusing, as well.

Walk Like an Egyptian (The Bangles,) Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Cyndi Lauper,) Jesse's Girl (Rick Springfield,) Thriller (Michael Jackson)

These three are on my playlist, because I am in love with 80's music, no matter how ridiculous that sounds. The Bangles, Cyndi Lauper, Rick Springfield, Michael Jackson are icons of the 80's for me, and if anyone ever wants suggestions for 80's music, these are three songs I would choose over and over again. These are good for a New Year's Eve party songs, because they're fun and upbeat.

S.O.S. (Jonas Brothers,) We Got the Party [With Us] (Hannah Montana,) Let's Dance (Miley Cyrus)

If you're going to have the young ones around for at least a little while, why not have some of their favorite Disney stars on the playlist? The Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana (aka Miley Cyrus,) are good bets, because I haven't met a kid yet, that didn't like these artists.

We're Not Gonna Take It (Twisted Sister,) Rock You Like a Hurricane (Scorpions,) Here I Go Again [On My Own] (Whitesnake)

I am not ashamed to admit it-- I have a soft spot in my heart, for hair metal. These songs that don't suck, are on the playlist, for the rock 'n roller at heart. Amongst all the contemporary music on your New Year's Eve playlist, your rock 'n roll family members and friends, will be thankful you put

Revolution, Come Together, I Saw Her Standing There, Drive My Car, Helter Skelter, The Word, Can't Buy Me Love, Twist and Shout (The Beatles)

My personality calls for a healthy does of The Beatles on my New Year's Eve playlist. These are eight of their most upbeat songs. Also, Twist and Shout is a song you can really dance too. I also chose The Beatles, because their music is full of the message of peace and love, perfect for the holidays, and starting off the New Year.

Blitzkreig Bop (Ramones,) I Wanna Be Sedated (Ramones,) Rock the Casbah (Clash,) White Riot (Clash)

If it isn't already apparent, I have an ecclectic taste in music. So, it's no surprise I would pick some old school punk music, to add more beat to a New Year's party playlist. These are three of the most famous punk songs of all time, and should adorn a great play list for the New Year.

Auld Lang Syne

When the countdown is complete, and the New Year has been brought in, there is no better song than this classic. If you don't like the old-sounding version, try a different one. I prefer Relient K's version, myself.

These are just twenty-six of my favorite songs that I would put on a New Year's Eve playlist, that would please a myriad of my friends and family members. Feel free to steal some of my ideas, and also, come up with your own. Be creative, and come up with a fun, danceable mix of holiday goodness!
