Best Sporting Event Ever

It was a nice sunny Sunday. The 10-6 New York Giants were at the 10-6 division winning San Francisco 49ers. It was the first time that the 49ers had been to the playoffs since Steve Young's retirement.

My brother and I travel from Sacramento to San Francisco to attend the big game. We needed to leave 3 hours before the game just to make it to the game in time. We left for the game 5 hours early and was stuck in traffic for nearly the whole time.

We arrived to our seat with nachos and soda minutes before kick-off. Already the day just didn't seem to go right. Then the game started and the Giants won the toss and chose to receive. After a short nine play five minute drive the New York Giants drove 37 yards and Eli Manning threw an interception on the 49ers 23 yard line.

On the 49ers first play of offense Jeff Garcia threw a 13 yard slant to Terrell Owens, in which he broke the safeties tackle and ran 60 yards untouched for the first touchdown of the game. After Terrell Owens scored, we began to think this was going to be a great day. Then the Giants answered back with a quick touchdown of their own. The score was 7-7 and you can feel the momentum switching to the Giants favor. In a blink of an eye the New York Giants started to score easily. They took a commanding lead of 28 to 14 at the end of the half, and even increased their lead to 38 to 14 near the end of the third quarter.

Then Jeff Garcia broke out of his shell and scored 17 unanswered points and last second touchdown drive at the end of the ball game. Jeff Garcia put together four great scoring drives to win the game. The 2002 playoff game between the New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers had an incredible finish that I will never forget.
