1. Bub's at the Ballpark: The new kid on the block has been packing in the crowds since opening recently in 2011. With a large number of big screen plasma and projector televisions, you'll have no trouble watching the big game. There is even a basketball court, so you can shoot free throws during timeouts. Bub's at the Ballpark has two outdoor seating areas, so you can enjoy the great San Diego weather. They also keep their doors and windows open, so there is plenty of fresh air inside as well. To go along with the great atmosphere, Bub's at the Ballpark serves up some really good food and has some great nightly specials. The Archie Chicken Sandwich and Archie Style (mixture of honey mustard and buffalo sauce) wings are a couple of my favorite menu items. You can check out the rest of their menu online at http://bubssandiego.com/ Bub's is located at 715 J Street in downtown San Diego, right next to Petco Park, where the Padres play.
2. East Village Tavern and Bowl has been a favorite with locals since opening their doors in 2007. It is a huge sports bar with two levels, twelve bowling lanes, pool tables, and plenty of giant flat screen televisions to watch the action on the field. Their menu, created by a celebrity chef, offers up great burgers, sandwiches, tacos, and wings. East Village Tavern and Bowl also has daily happy hour specials from Monday through Friday. This downtown San Diego sports bar can be found at 930 Market Street or online at http://bowlevt.com/
3. Nicky Rottens Bar & Burger Joint is a casual, yet classy sports bar located in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego. With great food and happy hour specials offered seven days a week, it is a great place to watch a game. Their buttermilk chicken fritters and fries and pulled pork sliders are a couple of my favorite menu items. Nicky Rottens is located at 560 Fifth Avenue and can also be found on the web at http://nickyrottens.com/
4. The Beer Company, located at 602 Broadway, has arguably the best happy hour in downtown San Diego. Their happy hour runs from 3pm to 7pm Monday through Saturday and includes delicious brick oven pizzas for under $6. The Beer Company offers several hand-crafted beers that are brewed right on site. It's spacious interior and flat screen televisions make this a great place to enjoy the game, along with some tasty pizza and beer. You can view the rest of their menu online at http://thebeerco.net/index.php
Other great sports bars in downtown San Diego include the Yard House, Whiskey Girl, the Tilted Kilt, Rock Bottom, and Fox Sports Grill. All of these sports bars are located within about a one mile radius, so they are within walking distance, or a short taxi ride away from each other. Enjoy.
