Best Spots to Propose in Orlando

E. Wright
Many wedding proposals seem to take place on the most romantic day of the year - Valentine's Day. Orlando, Florida may conjure up thoughts of amusement rides, melting ice cream, and screaming children, but we locals know what it has to offer the adult crowd. Especially those looking for the best spot to propose to their soul mate.

For the couple who enjoys quiet, tranquil evenings accompanied by bouquets of red roses, Lee's Lakeside should serve them well. This highly recommended restaurant overlooks the cascading fountain of Lake Eola and boasts plush seating with a soft, pastel interior. Calming piano music fills your ears as you walk towards your table. Downtown city life can also be seen, but not heard, while dining. After finishing the renowned lobster tail with prime rib, you are now savoring another glass of champagne, and then, surprise! There's a beautifully cut two carat diamond resting comfortably on the bottom, waiting to be placed ever so gently on your hand. Well, Orlando isn't just for kids anymore, is it?

There are also those of us who are slightly more laid back than others, and not so comfortable in fancy restaurants. Lake Eola is the next best spot to propose in Orlando. But didn't I just refer to this from Lee's Lakeside? Yes, but now I am talking about the actual lake. You can rent swan-shaped paddle boats here for $10 per half hour. How much fun would it be to gaze at the fabulous Orlando skyline while paddling around the lake with your significant other? Don't forget, the dozen red roses he brought you have already moistened your eyes a bit, too. Suddenly, Mr. Spectacular drops on one knee (as best he can in a swan) and presents a sparkling diamond engagement ring. Could life get any better?

Now, for the really adventurous couple, it goes without saying a roller coaster could be the perfect place to propose to your future wife. Islands of Adventure, Orlando is home to the 110 foot "Incredible Hulk." While speeding away at 67 miles per hour, you have built up the courage to begin screaming, "Will you marry me?" At which point the green monster begins to plummet back down to earth, and the excited soon-to-be spouse cries and answers yes. Of course, you'll want to wait to place the ring on her finger until after you're off the ride.

There are requirements for the final best place to propose in Orlando. You must love Disney World and princesses. The Cinderella Castle might just be the most loved attraction in all of Magic Kingdom. Nighttime may be the best time to proclaim your love here, since fireworks are usually displayed then. Underneath the stars, the prince and princess commit to a lifetime of fairy dust and happiness. My friend used to play Cinderella's character here, and she would tell me about the most inspiring and thought out proposals she had witnessed at the castle. Very romantic, even with children jumping nearby.

Orlando is home to many cultures and characters, and offers a wide array of parks, attractions, and lakes. A couple of my ideas may have seemed silly, but there is truly something for everyone here to choose from. From the most simplistic of couples to the most demanding, most everywhere you look could turn into potential proposal ground. But when all is said and done, the most important thing to remember is that you now have a best friend for life, and that miracles really do come true. May the fairy dust always be in your eyes.
