Best Spring 2009 Network TV Family Comedies

Monica Bullock
This year, network television has been quite busy producing some notable comedies. The networks are producing family comedies offering varied comedic styles. Some a little more tongue in cheek while some are smart and conservative. All of them are just plain funny! Check out our picks for the best spring 2009 network TV family comedies.

In the Motherhood

It started as an Internet sensation. In the Motherhood brought webisodes to thrilled audiences with plot lines based on viewer experiences. This smart and fun comedy is being brought to network television with some of our favorite stars in play. Cheryl Hines from Curb Your Enthusiasm and Megan Mullally from the hit show Will and Grace are two of the headliners. Rounding out the third mom position is Jessica St. Clair. The three friends pick up on the original plot line as the witty somewhat dysfunctional mothers maintaining their families and friendships with lots of humor. Moms will love watching these three riotous women bring moms everywhere a little comedy relief. Look for In The Motherhood to premiere on ABC Thursday March 26th at 7:00PM Central Time.

The Unusuals

ABC brings another family comedy to center stage in April. This one looks pretty interesting with a different twist on police life. This new network comedy stars Amber Tamblyn as Detective Casey Shraeger as NYPD's new homicide investigator. Jeremy Renner plays her partner Detective Jason Walsh. ABC bills this show as similar to the hit series MASH with pranks and gags strewn throughout the series. Sure to be a favorite with Dad and the whole family, watch The Unusuals on Wednesday April 8 at 9PM Central Time.

The Untitled Amy Poehler Show

NBC is bring Amy Poehler to prime time comedy. The as of yet, untitled series gets our vote because of Poehler's comedy hijinks in Baby Mama and SNL. This spring TV show pokes fun at government with it's 'mockumentary' style. Poehler's new show may not be right for the smaller ones in the family, but it will bring the laughs to teens and grown ups alike. NBC has not yet released the premiere date for this show. Check their website for the upcoming date.

Zip

Steven Weber, formerly of Wings, is coming back to NBC in a new half hour comedy show called Zip. Weber plays Trip Stringer a single dad with two precocious kids and an interesting job. Weber enjoys California dreaming and living with hardly any cash or legitimate income. Determined to keep kids happy and well taken care of, Weber's character goes to great lengths to bring in the domestic dough. A great family show, Zip looks fun for the whole family. This spring 2009 TV comedy show premieres soon check the network's website for more details.

Wipeout

ABC's Wipeout promises to be hilarious. This interesting comedic reality series will keep families in stitches and may become this spring's new TV hit! Wipeout is a cross between America's Funniest Videos and Fear Factor. Every week 24 contestants compete in wacky contests in order to win a $50,000 prize. Follow three hosts, John Henson from Talk Soup, John Anderson from ESPN and the beautiful Jill Wagner as they lead contestants on their journey to cash.
