St. Patrick's Day seems like an obvious kid favorite holiday, but green beer may not be the best way to celebrate with a family. Pick one of these Irish and St. Patrick's Day themed movies instead.

The Luck of the Irish is a classic Disney adventure about Kyle, a teenager with a lucky charm that has always worked. Until he loses the charm and discovers he's actually part leprechaun. And unless he finds whoever stole the charm they can take control of all the leprechauns.

The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns is a Hallmark movie in which Dennis Quaid plays a businessman who rents a cottage on Emerald Isle. When the native, which include leprechauns and fairies, begin to fight over a Romeo and Juliet style love between a leprechaun and a fairy princess, the Grand Banshee, played by Whoopie Goldberg, appoints Quaid to return the island to peace.

A Very Unlucky Leprechaun (1998) - Molly and her father suddenly inherit "Misfortune Manor" in Ireland complete with a leprechaun squatter. She soon learns that the home's name comes from the leprechaun's bad luck which rubs off on her. She has to find a way to turn both of their lucks around.

Finian's Rainbow is the 1968 musical Broadway favorite from Francis Ford Coppola. Fred Astaire stars as Finian McLonergan who comes from Ireland with his daughter Sharon and a pot of gold belonging to the leprechaun Og. This movie has catchy songs and beautiful scenes but deals with interracial and political themes which may be over children's heads and a good deal of sexual humor parents may not approve of.

Darby O'Gill and the Little People (1959) tells what happens when gabber Dary O'Gill captures the King of the Leprechauns. True to legend, the leprechaun grants him three wishes, but O'Gill soon finds out he must be careful what he wishes for.

Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers: The Last Leprechaun pits Chip and Dale against the leprechauns in leprechaun land. A rare find but worth it for the writing.

Riverdance - The Best of Riverdance Older children, especially girls, will be more likely to enjoy this dancing sensation. Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance is another great entertainment option. The Irish dancing will probably inspire your kids to try it for themselves, so don't show this one too close to bed time.

Leapin Leprechauns is PG adventure about a man who foolishly tries to build a theme park on top of land which belong to the Leprechauns.

The Gnome-Mobile is a 1967 Disney movie with lots of little forest gnomes trying to find the rest of their gnome tribe with the help of an eccentric millionaire and his grandkids.
