Best Stocking Stuffer for a Deployed Soldier

Taylor Christian
When I accepted this Call for Content, I was unsure who I would list as the recipient for my gift ideas. I spent the morning perusing a lot of content and came across a young man's works who served two tours of duty in Iraq. He has suffered a lot of pain and anguish as a result of his service. After reading his work, I had my answer.

Best Stocking Stuffers for A Deployed Soldier.

1) A calling card, with hundreds of minutes so that they can call home whenever they have the need and the time.

2) A cell phone so that they can keep in touch with friends, or other soliders with phones. There is no such thing as too much communication.

3) $50.00 in one dollar bills--so that they always have change for whatever they want or need.

4) A journal, pencils, pens, to record and describe the experiences they are having.

5) A small photo album full of pictures of family, friends and some of he places the soldier spends time, local restaurants, the front yard of his home. Fill it with pictures that bring him comfort.

6) A paperback novel by his favorite author.

7) A deck of playing cards, and pack of poker chips.

8) A small digital camera with two large memory cards so he can send one home for safe keeping after it is full.

9) A small reading light so he can read or write any time of the day or night.

10) Most important of all, a small Bible. Apply liberally.

No amount of gifts or money can bring the soldier home, but the goal here is to make him smile, and make him feel appreciated. He might not be home for Christmas, but the above gifts will let him know he is loved and and give him a little taste of home.

What a wonderful idea. It must be incredibly hard to be apart from their family and loved ones any time of the year, but especially at Christmas.

That would be a good stocking fill for me too!

Great ideas! When my Marine son was away for Christmas I sent him a huge Christmas stocking packed with tons of goodies including a doggie puppet that barked ( to remind him he will always be my CHILD) and also included enough 'extras' to share with buddies!
