Best Summer Footwear

Summer is the season for baring your toes and sandals or flip-flops are the best way to do that. A few pairs of great summer shoes are essential, and easy to find if you know what you're looking for. No matter what your budget is, I can some great ideas for you.

If you're low on cash, and even if you're not, you'll need a pair or two of basic, casual flip-flops. The color doesn't matter, although a solid, neutral tone is sure to pair well with most any outfit. My favorite no-frills, simple flip-flops are from the Gap. Their Casual Flip-Flops are a summer shoe must-have; my favorite pair are the red print. They feature a thin gold strap, which is so hot right now. The sole is thin and comfortable, but these flip-flops are nothing you would wear hiking or walking long distances. Another great pair of every day sandals is Crocs Adara in Chocolate/Cotto, a great rich brown with feminine pale pink soles. These flip-flops are girly and very comfortable. They also make a great pick for the beach or the pool.

For a sturdier, most supportive sandal, think Birkenstock. I know, I know, you're thinking "hippie" sandals, but really, they have a fabulous variety of awesome shoes. My favorite pair is the Piazza Chocolate Suede; they are comfortable and great for vacations that include a lot of sightseeing. They are feminine enough to look great, but supportive enough to really support your tootsies all summer long. Another great, well-built pair of sandals is Merrell Waterpro Merced in Clay. They are wonderfully supportive, strong and great for all types of land and water activities in the summer weather. Plus, they're really cute!

A great pair of dressy sandals are also a summer shoe must-have. If you like heels, try a wedge sandal. My favorite pair is AK Anne Klein Cameo in Chestnut. The rich brown color is great for evenings and the light, strappy design is perfect for summer. If you don't like to wear heels, you can still find a great pair of sandals for dressy occasions. My favorite flat sandals are Carlos by Carlos Santana Alarm in Silver. They are light and delicate but really pretty and fancy.

When selecting summer footwear, think about comfort as well as about style. It's fairly easy to find both, without spending a lot of cash too. If you select a couple pairs of nice, dressy sandals and match them with comfortable, supportive pair and a few flimsy, but comfortable every day flip-flops, you'll be on your way to a fashionable and comfortable summer!
