Best Summer Time Activities for Children in Middle Georgia

School's out in Middle Georgia. While the kids are excited- parents are anxious. Its now time to find activities to entertain the kids. There is always the traditional arts and crafts activities to help pass the time. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, then there is plenty to do in Middle Georgia this summer.

Story Hour

We all know how important reading is to our children.

Luckily, all the local libraries have story hours and many of them have free reading hours. To find the times for your local library, visit Georgia Public Library Services homepage and select your nearest location. In addition, Books-a-million and the Lamb's Well both run free story hours.
Movie days

Amstar Cinema is running their summer children's movie specials every Wednesday. Three dollars purchases admission to the movie, popcorn, and a drink.

Lane's Peach Factory

Lane's Peach Factory also makes a great day activity. Children can enjoy inexpensive strawberry picking. In addition, there is a free playground, that children will love. After working up an appetite, children can eat some homemade ice cream. Then they can take a tour of the facility for free to cool off.

Antebellum Trail

The Antebellum Trail takes the public on a tour of houses that remained untouched even after the Civil War. The Hay House in Macon,Georgia is one of the houses on this tour. Built between 1855 to 1859, the Hay house is an Italian Renaissance Revival style four level 18,000-square-foot mansion spans four levels. Children will enjoy walking into this historical house. Hours of operation are Tuesdays-Saturdays 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tours are conducted every hour on the hour. Prices are adult eight dollars, seniors and military seven dollars, students four dollars, and children and Georgia Trust members are free.

Macon's Museum of Arts and Sciences

The Museum of Arts and Sciences is holding a special dinosaur event all summer. See life sized dinosaurs, search for fossils, operate a
robotic dinosaur, and other kid friendly events. Days and hours of operation are Mon. - Sat. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., and the last Friday of the month 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Admission prices are eight dollars for adults, six dollars for seniors ,five dollars for students , and four dollars for ages 2 to 11.

Macon Music

Enjoy the excitement of a baseball game without driving to Atlanta. Macon Music will provide the day at the ball field at a portion of the Braves game prices. You can buy a book of ten tickets that can be used on any game day for only forty five dollars. They run special family night events where you can get four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas for only twenty dollars. Saturday night after home games, there are free fireworks.

Georgia Children's Museum
There is endless amount of activities for children to enjoy. There are daily arts and crafts projects. The Young Learner's Exhibition for toddlers to five year olds that feature an interactive kitchen, grocery store, camping site, and a puppet theater. An imaginary television studio so children can pretend to be a newscaster or reporter. Admission is only five dollars per person and toddlers under two are free.

Museum of Aviation
Located right next to Robins Air Force Base, the Museum of Aviation offers an educational and free outing. The Museum's "Windows To A
Distant Past," is a sight-and-sound Native American exhibit. There are many planes on exhibit on the outside as well as in the various buildings of the Museum of Aviation. In addition, Hanger one features a F-105 simulator cockpit, and a special exhibit honoring the African American pioneers in the Air Force, called "America's Black Eagles - The Tuskegee Pioneers . . . and Beyond." The CENTURY OF FLIGHT HANGAR features a theater presentation every half hour. .
