Best Sunscreen: A Comparison of Four Sunscreens

Nancy Yu
When we're going out and having fun in the summer, we definitely can't forget sunscreen. Sunscreen is the key to the prevention of wrinkles and freckles from UV light. Thus, if we want good skin, we need good sunscreen. However, just looking at the spf number if definitely not enough. We need to understand the ingredients in the sunscreen and how effective those ingredients are at protecting our skin.

After comparing a couple popular products on the market, I decided to choose five to test. These results can help you make the right choice regarding the sunscreen.

Note: Everything is judged on a scale of five. However, just because a category has a high rating does not mean that the product if good. For example, if the product has a high greasiness rating, then it means that the product felt very oily and greasy.

Skin Aqua UV Moisture Milk sunblock

sunscreen efficiency: 5

moisture: 5

greasiness: 1

breath-ability: 4

Even though this sunscreen contains relatively high concentrations of active ingredients, it feels very nice on the skin. It's very easily absorbed and easily blended and it feels super light and not oily at all! Its moisture contents (which include collagen and vitamin b5) helps keep the skin well moisturized and soft and the collagen content can help the skin retain moisture for a long period of time and tighten the skin. This product is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Biore UV perfect face milk

sunscreen efficiency: 3

moisture: 2

greasiness: 4

breath-ability: 2

This sunscreen employs heavy use of chemicals to help the skin block UV lights UVA and UVB. It prevents damage to the skin and prevents formation of freckles. While looking at the ingredients on the back, it was obvious that they added many moisturizing ingredients. However, because its heavy reliance on chemicals rather than natural ingredients, the sunscreen was not as efficient as I had hoped and the texture of the cream was not very good; it felt very greasy to me.

Olay ultra-uv protection fluid

sunscreen efficiency: 3

moisture: 2

greasiness: 3

breath-ability: 2

I've seen quite a few commercials for this sunscreen. The producers promote it as a product that is extremely efficient at blocking UVA/UVB lights from damaging the skin and it can prevent freckles from forming. After using this product, I think that it's a very long-lasting product. The texture is OK. You can tell that the producers put effort into making it a relatively lightweight and non-greasy product. However, I still did not feel that the product was light enough.

Neutrogena Ultra-sheer dry-touch sunblock

sunblock efficiency: 2

moisture: 1

greasiness: 5

breath-ability: 1

This product claims that it uses a special formula with helioplex, which produces long-lasting protection against UVA/UVB to give the skin a natural and healthy glow. After using this product, I felt that it was very heavy, dry, and greasy. I think that some of Neutrogena's other products are definitely better than this one. I think this product did more harm to my skin than good.
