Best Super Bowls of the 1990s

In the NFL, the '90s belonged to the Dallas Cowboys and the San Fransisco 49ers. They won a combined five championships in the decade. The nineties were a decade for dynasties, seeing as the NFL's efforts toward parity had yet to come to fruition. Many of the Super Bowls were snooze-fests, including three games decided by more than three touchdowns. There were, however, a handful of gems. Here are the top 5 Super Bowls of the '90s.

5. Super Bowl XXVIII (1994). Buffalo Bills vs. Dallas Cowboys. This Super Bowl had a great amount of star power. Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin squared of the Cowboys squared off against Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas of the Bills. It was a rematch of the previous Super Bowl. Although the Bills were tougher than the previous year, they were outclassed by Dallas 30-17. Emmitt Smith was named MVP.

4. Super Bowl XXXI (1997). Green Bay Packers vs. New England Patriots. The Lombardi Trophy finally made it's way back to Green Bay with their 35-21 victory. Brett Favre connected with Andre Rison on Green Bay's first drive for a 54 yard touchdown pass. The footage of Favre running around like a little kid on the playground will be etched permanently in Green Bay Packer history. Another memorable moment was two sacks by Reggie White that sealed the game for the Packers. Desmond Howard was named MVP thanks to his kickoff return for a touchdown.

3. Super Bowl XXX (1996). Dallas Cowboys vs. Pittsburgh Steelers. The Pittsburgh Steelers nearly shocked the world by upsetting the Dallas Cowboys. In the end, Dallas' running game was too much as they prevailed 27-17. Also, two costly interceptions thrown by Neil O'Donnel were too much for Pittsburgh to overcome. Dallas cornerback, Larry Brown, was named MVP and finished the game with two interceptions.

2. Super Bowl XXXII (1998). Green Bay Packers vs. Denver Broncos. This was a classic quarterback showdown between Brett Favre and John Elway. Elway secured his first Super Bowl trophy when the Broncos edged Green Bay 31-24. Green Bay's defense had no answer for Bronco's running back, Terell Davis, who secured the game's MVP award. Images of John Elway laying out on a scramble for a first down are still used today in NFL highlight videos.

1. Super Bowl XXV (1991). New York Giants vs. Buffalo Bills. It is rare that a Super Bowl comes down to a field goal attempt on the last play. Trailing by one point, Buffalo's kicker Scott Norwood attempted a game winning field goal. It sailed wide right and New York escaped with a victory. The main contributing factor to their victory was their domination of time of possession. New York possessed the ball for over fourty minutes of the game. New York running back, Otis Anderson was named MVP of perhaps the most thrilling Super Bowl ever.
