For breakfast on a Sunday in Taos, New Mexico, there's only one restaurant that's even worth considering. The Dragonfly Cafe and Bakery blows all other restaurants in New Mexico right out of the water! Easily the most delectable brunch I've ever experienced in my life. I only wish we had stayed in town longer, to experience their lunch and dinner menus.
Chef and Owner, Karen Todd has over 20 years experience in the culinary arts. She's traveled all over the world to learn and experience a variety of cuisines-- and she brings that experience to the table at the Dragonfly. Everyday meals are enhanced with a touch of the exotic. Todd knows just how to combine the highest quality spices and ingredients to make your taste buds rejoice!
The Dragonfly won the Best of Taos Award in 2006 and again in 2008. If you have a chance to experience their baked goods, you'll see why. I had the pleasure of sampling Todd's Green Plum Empanada and all I can say is-- it was perfect. My husband, also a talented chef, can usually find something to nit-pick at every restaurant we visit... but Todd's cooking left him speechless-- which says an incredible lot! Todd is a genius.
I highly recommend the quiche, and my husband suggests the omelet; however, I'm sure you couldn't possibly go wrong with anything on the menu. Todd only works with the best quality ingredients, for the most part organic and local, with fresh seasonal vegetables picked right from the Chef's garden. You can taste the difference.
If you only require a mid-day snack break, The Dragonfly is the place to go-- for the fresh baked breads, cakes, tarts, and cookies, and the full-service coffee bar featuring Organic Fair-Trade coffee. And what better setting to relax the mind and body than a historic 1920's farmhouse complete with adobe fireplace, garden courtyard, and a bubbling water fountain? Let your children play in the backyard playground while you sip your cappuccino. The service is as exceptional as the Chef! If, as you're walking by, the charm of The Dragonfly lures you in, I strongly suggest you give into it. You won't regret the experience!
