Best Teen Electronics Gifts

Bill Frische
Many teens are incredibly hard to buy Christmas gifts for. They hold down after school jobs which provide a steady stream of income which allow them to buy some fairly significantly expensive items. So how do you pick? The following are the top five gifts for teens who are into electronics and they probably have not bought for themselves.

1. The Nikon D90 DSLR Camera

The 12 megapixel Nikon D90 camera is one of Nikon's latest digital cameras. It features the same internal processing as the more expensive D300 so you get the same quality of pictures for less money. It is also Nikon's first camera that will double as an 24fps camcorder. You need to ensure that you get this camera with a lens if you do not already have one. With a lens it will run about $1300. Ritz Camera, B&H, and Adorama are all trusted sources to buy this camera. If you find it for significantly less than any of these places it is probably a scam.

2. A Blu-Ray player

The number one Blu-Ray player is the Sony PS3. It is fully supported by Sony (which invented the Blu-Ray format) and is continued to be upgraded as the Blu-Ray standard advances. As an added bonus is also plays video games. Even though there are several PS3 models, they all play Blu-Ray. They run about 400 dollars. You also need to ensure that your teen has a high definition television to take avantage of the Blu-Ray capabilities.

3. T-Mobile SideKick 3

This small package is a teens all around communication device. It functions cell phone, small 1.3 megapixel camera, and Internet connection all in one. The sidekick also has built in Yahoo, Microsoft Network, and American Online instant messaging client so your teen will be able to communcation with everyone. Right now at T-Mobile's home page the basic Sidekick has $150 in instant discounts and rebates which brings it to $149.99

Do not forget the phone plan however. If you already have T-Mobile you can add additional services relatively cheaply. Otherwise, you will need to choose plans that range from 29.99 for 300 minutes to 99.99 for an unlimited plan. There are also many other plan options to choose from. See T-Mobile's homepage for more information:

4.Digimemo Digital Notepad

On the less expensive side, this gift is great for your teen who is going off to college. The Digimemo is a writing tablet that you can take notes on, sketch on, etc...and stores them to memory right away. Later, you can plug it into your USB port on your Windows based PC and transfer the notes right up into your computer. This one costs $100.99 at Amazon.com

5.iPod Dock

Almost everyone has an iPod these days. But one of the problems with an iPod is that your stuck -- by default -- to only listening to your music via earphones. So what to do? There are a whole slew off different types of iPod docks on the market right now to solve this problem. One of my favorites is the iLuv i199. This $149.99 iPod dock also included AM/FM radio, CD, and Bluetooth support. As a plus, it also sounds good. You can get it at Amazon.com

Lastly, if you are buying electronics online, check out Microsoft's Live Cashback service. For the items listed above you can get 3-5% cashback on your purchases. Combine that with a credit card and no sales tax, you are looking at 6-10% discount for shopping online.
