Best Third Person Shooter Video Games

This is for the people who don't want to have to play their shooters through the eyes of the main character. For the people who like to actually see what's going on around them. Generally, third person shooters add a little more mechanics to the game than first person shooters. You normally get a cover system and some combat rolls. I can't answer which view is better, but I can give you a list of the best third person shooters for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Red Faction: Guerrilla (PS3/Xbox 360) - The ultimate game of shooting and destruction. Red Faction lets you run around an open world destroying anything in your path. This is by no means the best third person shooter on the market, but what it lacks in comparison to others, it makes up in flat out fun gameplay. There's nothing special to the gameplay, no cover system or real tactical way to go about things, just go in guns blazing and bombs blasting.

Dead Space (PS3/Xbox 360) - How can I put this...If you get jumpy when you see a spider on you, then you probably will want to skip this game. However, if you like to be scared, see horrifying things, and have your heart racing nonstop even after turning the game off, then Dead Space will be right up your alley. This horror video game is very well done and if you can handle the experience it is a third person shooter that must be played.

Gears of War 2 (Xbox 360) - Gears of War is the leader of third person shooters. They have a great cover system, awesome creatures to fight, and exciting boss battles. The Gears of War franchise doesn't do everything perfect, but they do everything better than their competition. Unfortunately, if you don't own an Xbox 360 you can't play this as it is a 360 exclusive. Sorry PS3 owners.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3) - Ok, so PS3 owners can't play Gears of War 2, but they can play Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and 360 owners cannot. I know Drake's Fortune is technically classified as an action adventure game, but over half the game involves third person shooting with a great cover system. This is the most realistic shooter as well as the most visually stunning. This is one of the best games for the PlayStation system and is a must own for any PS3 consumer.
