Best Top Ten Comical and Funny Christmas Movies

Christmas can be a stressful holiday. Coming up with money for gifts, planning events, baking cookies and Christmas holiday dinners can all put a once sane person into overload. If you're looking to relax and unwind this holiday season, try a comical and funny Christmas movie. Some of these are animated Christmas movies, whereas others feature some of our funniest comedians. Here are my choices for the top ten funny Christmas movies.

1. Elf (2003). You probably can't get a movie funnier than this. Will Ferrell is hard to beat, as he plays in one of his best roles. Imagine his excitement when he gets to become one of Santa's elves. This child in an adult's body is hilarious in this unforgettable Christmas movie.

2. Bad Santa (2003). Another movie from 2003, Bad Santa stars Billy Bob Thornton as a Santa who definitely isn't doing his job very well. It's pretty funny how bad of a Santa he really is.

3. The Santa Claus (1994). Tim Allen gets his chance to be Santa Claus. Can he pull it off? Well, probably not, but we'll all enjoy laughing watching him try.

4. Four Christmases (2008). This is a newer movie, and it involves a couple who try every year to avoid their family at Christmas time. They come up with all kinds of excuses, so they can head off somewhere warm and sunny. Well, this year, as they are about to escape onto the plane to reach paradise, they are caught on the news. Their families find out they don't have a legitimate excuse, and so now they have to visit everyone. This is yet another comical look at Christmas time for adults, starring Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon.

5. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989). Chevy Chase was my favorite comic actor for many years. He always had me laughing. Some don't appreciate his humor, but it usually has me rolling on the floor. This movie is just as funny as his others, and a great funny Christmas movie to enjoy during the holidays.

6. The Ref (1994). Denis Leary plays the burglar in this hilarious holiday movie about a very dysfunctional family. The funny thing about this Christmas movie is that Denis ends up being an unintended counselor while he's trying to steal from the family. I'll bet he wishes he had just stayed in bed that day! The family ends up being a worse nightmare for him than he is for trying to steal from them.

7. Trading Places (1983). You remember this movie, where two men trade places? The rich guy is set up to take a fall and two of his colleagues replace him with a man off the street. What happens when a poor guy gets put into the shoes of a rich man? This is a funny holiday movie starring Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd.

8. Deck the Halls (2006). Imagine a fight between two neighbors, played by Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick, for who can have the most powerful Christmas display outside that can be seen from outerspace! What a silly goal, unfortunately unrealized until both men have gone way too far. This movie is outrageously funny!

9. Jingle All the Way (1996). Imagine Arnold Schwarzenegger playing a father in a competition with another father to try and obtain the perfect gift for his son for Christmas. How funny!

10. Santa Claus: The Movie (1985). John Lithgow and Dudley Moore star in this film that tells a tale of how Santa Claus came to be. Any movie these two are in has to be funny!
