The best thing you can give your pet bunny is grass, either fresh or dried. In nature, a rabbit or bunny would eat a lot of grass and greens. If you have a back yard, you can pick some fresh blades of grass, and your bunny will munch them all up! If you pick your own grass, be very careful that no pesticides or herbicides were ever sprayed on the grass. These chemicals could be very harmful or even deadly for your bunny. But as long as the grass is clean, fresh grass is one of a bunny's favorite treats, and one that will cost you $0.
You can also give your bunny dried grass, especially during the winter months. You can either dry your own grass for the winter, or you can buy small bales of grass at any pet store. Timothy hay is generally better for older bunnies than alfalfa, though alfalfa is good for baby bunnies.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are also a healthy part of a bunny's diet. While different bunnies' tastes will vary, you can try giving your bunny different leafy greens, napa cabbage, chunks of apple, carrots, and corn. My pet bunny is a huge fan of sweet corn. We put inch-long segments of fresh sweet corn into its food dish and our bunny chomps them right up!
You can also buy alfalfa pellets as a staple part of your bunny's diet. These are not that exciting, but they have a variety of nutrients and will round out your bunny's diet.
Like humans, bunnies are a big fan of carbs. Our bunny loves it when we give it a Cheerio or a tiny bit of bread. Of course, you should not feed your bunny too much processed food, but a little bit of whole-grain cereal can be a big treat for your bunny.
Finally, always make sure your bunny has plenty of fresh water available. A bunny needs fresh water to stay healthy.
