Cover your fridge with homemade LOLs this year. For those who celebrate Caturday and all things LOLcat, pick up the LOL Speak Poetry Magnets from Icanhascheezburger.com. This is an inexpensive and fun Christmas stocking stuffer that will actually get some use. If you have one of those lovely, sadly non-magnetic metallic fridges as I do, consider the FAIL/WIN Stamps instead. Use them to simplify office paperwork, or cut down the time spent grading student papers.
Miracle Berry parties are all the rage these days. It's a small fruit that makes sour and bitter foods taste magically sweeter. While getting a hold of fresh miracle berries can be expensive, Think Geek offers powdered miracle berry tablets that dissolve on the tongue as an inexpensive alternative. These would be a unique Christmas stocking stuffer for foodies and kids who hate vegetables. Imagine how much better this could make meals when you have to visit that one relative who can't cook! Or that you could get your four year old to eat some spinach and brussels sprouts with them!
Tired of cheesy stuffed animals and annoying talking dolls? A petri dish of plush microbes would make a great Christmas stocking stuffer. If those aren't enough, there are giant plush microbes as well. Toxic mold, ebola, acne and rabies can be cute when they are cuddly little toys. Plus they include information about the actual microbes, which means you can swear to your mother that you are buying your children educational toys! While many of the microbes are suitable for children, you may want to hold off on the STD microbes like syphilis and herpes until you're ready to do some explaining. However, all of them are perfectly acceptable to give to friends. My personal favorites are the common cold and the flesh eating virus.
Etsy is an excellent place to shop for unique Christmas stocking stuffers and many sellers have holiday specials. You can find handmade and vintage items of all kinds. One of my favorites are the beautiful moleskin notebooks from Shoofly. These would be great for diaries, poetry or that great American novel you keep talking about writing. There are quite a few elegant designs to choose from to suit everyone from teenagers to writers to teachers. The small size notebooks are probably best suited as Christmas stocking stuffers, unless you happen to have very large stockings.
Cupcakes are popular these days, but they aren't good Christmas stocking stuffers. However cupcake shaped soaps are a unique stocking stuffer! LilyBaySoap offers individual cupcake soaps and cupcake soaps by the dozen in several delicious scents. If cupcakes aren't appealing, SoapStore offers soaps shaped like doughnuts, popsicles, fruit and other foods. These are so realistic you might want to avoid giving them to family members and friends who will try to bite right into them. For the children on your list, make their unique Christmas stocking stuffer dinosaur shaped soap instead.
For everyone on the naughty list this year, the best unique Christmas stocking stuffers are lumps of coal. This glycerin soap is peppermint scented and comes in a muslin bag which can be stamped with a Christmas image if you wish. (TwinDreamCreations will even make them in a different scent if you make a request.) Despite the black color, these won't stain the tub.
Perhaps the most wonderful Christmas stocking stuffer of all is The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead. Written in a serious style, this book covers everything from how to find food and shelter to the best methods for killing zombies. It is a companion to one of the best novels in recent years, World War Z by Max Brooks. It's a frightening realistic story set in the near future and chronicling the outbreak of a zombie plague that threatens the entire world. One or both books would make a unique stocking stuffer for anyone on your list who loves zombie movies, apocalyptic fiction or survival skills training. I plan on giving them to all my friends and loved ones, just in case zombies attack this Christmas.
