Jennifer Hudson: I'll Be Home for Christmas - ABC, 8:00 p.m. - For one of the most musical new Christmas TV specials of 2009, check out Jennifer Hudson's tribute to the holidays full of music, memories, and a guest appearance by Grammy Award Winner Michael Bublé. Be prepared to hear some tearful Christmas tunes and tales when one of the most emotional Christmas TV specials airs on Monday, December 14, 2009.
House: Joy to the World - FOX, 8:00 p.m. - And for those who prefer less heartfelt Christmas TV specials, chug some eggnog while getting a good dose of holiday nastiness with everyone's favorite devilish doctor. It's not one of the new Christmas TV specials airing for December 2009, having aired last year, but you can enjoy House's solving of a holiday-themed mystery involving magic mushrooms and a fake virgin birth in one of the most nauseating (literally, there are lots of nauseous patients in the episode) Christmas TV specials you'll ever see.
A Scooby-Doo Christmas - Cartoon Network, 7:00 p.m. - Speaking of mysteries, here's another of the Christmas TV specials on this list that involves mysterious holiday goings-on. Scooby and the gang have to deal with a whole different kind of Christmas spirit in the form of a headless snowman. So can they melt the coldhearted monster in time to save the holidays? It's not one of the best animated Christmas TV specials you'll see, but at least it's very unique.
Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer - Cartoon Network, 7:30 p.m. - And here you've got another of the unique animated Christmas TV specials Cartoon Network is airing in a holiday mini-marathon of sorts. This one takes one of our favorite (although very dark) Christmas tunes and turns it into a cartoon. But don't worry, Mom and Dad, here Grandma ends up being okay and Santa isn't the one behind the runaway sleigh.
Gotta Catch Santa Claus - Cartoon Network, 8:30 p.m. - This is another of the animated Christmas TV specials with a unique storyline, albeit a pretty terrible one involving evil snowmen. Still, William Shatner voices Santa Claus, and it is one of the newer animated Christmas TV specials for 2009, being released just last year.
A Jetson Christmas Carol - Cartoon Network, 9:00 p.m. - This is one of the many animated Christmas TV specials that retells Dickens' classic tale, this time in a more futuristic setting. Mr. Spacely is Scrooge; George is Bob Cratchit; two machines and a talking present (for the Ghost of Christmas Present) are the three spirits; and Astro (not Elroy) is Tiny Tim. Unfortunately, this isn't one of the best animated Christmas TV specials based on 'A Christmas Carol', because Mr. Spacely's motives for making the Jetson family's holiday better isn't because he has a change of heart, but because he might end up getting sued. Still, it's just as fun to watch in 2009 as it was in 1985, even if we still can't get flying cars for Christmas yet.
Ed, Edd n Eddy's Jingle, Jingle, Jangle - Cartoon Network, 9:30 p.m. - Here's one of the best modern animated Christmas specials for kids, with the Eds tying to find a way to hijack the holiday. When Eddy finds out he's only getting clothes for Christmas (a nightmarish thought we all dealt with as kids), he decides to try to get adopted into other families to steal the other kids of the cul-de-sac's presents. So will he succeed, or will Christmas be saved for all the other good girls and boys? This is actually one of the funnier animated Christmas specials on this list, if you can get past the quirky animation style.
Good Eats: Twas the Night Before Good Eats - Food Network, 8:00 p.m. - In one of the goofier Christmas TV specials aimed at adults, Alton Brown is visited by three spirits that lead him to creating some classic holiday culinary creations. So if you want to wow guests with a few yuletide classics, then this may be one of the best of the many food-related Christmas TV specials of 2009 for you.
Nickelodeon animated Christmas TV specials, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. - If you're looking for some animated Christmas specials for younger kids, Nickelodeon has got a great early Christmas present for them. From Dora to Diego to Max & Ruby, you can keep the little ones entertained all day long with these animated Christmas TV specials not just meant to get them in the holiday spirit, but to teach them something, as well.
The National Tree - The Hallmark Channel, 8:00 p.m. - And here's one of The Hallmark Channel's new Christmas TV specials for 2009, a feel-good made-for-TV movie that's just as sweet as Santa's sugar cookies. It's about a father and son whose special tree is selected as the national Christmas tree and their cross-country journey to bring the tree to Washington. There will be plenty of family bonding and an exploration of the true spirit of the holidays, so get the tissues ready for this one.
So from cheesy made-for-TV movies to animated Christmas classics, you and the family may actually enjoy Monday by watching some of the best Christmas TV specials of December 2009.
